Job Description Summary

Activities aimed at proving a concept to be valid or technically feasible by the application of scientific and engineering methodologies. Work in this family typically has the objective of demonstrating through test or analyses the performance and implementation potential of a concept

Impacts quality of own work and the work of others on the team. Executes standard operational/technical tasks typically subject to instructions and work routines. There is latitude to rearrange the sequence to complete task/duties based on changing work situations.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Conceptual, or theoretical activities relating to the development, improvement, and usage of materials, coatings, and processes undertaken to build, apply, or shape the materials.

  • Developing conceptual knowledge of professional discipline. May include support roles with specialized expertise or technical knowledge in broad area.

  • Applies general knowledge of business developed through education or experience. Understands how work of own team contributes to the area.

  • Resolves issues using established procedures. Consults supervisor or more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters.

  • Collaborates with others to solve issues. For customer facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Exchanges technical information asks questions and checks for understanding.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical & Materials Science Engineering

  • A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience

  • Good level of understanding on metallic materials, their properties and processing

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and orally in English

  • Proven self-starter and independent worker who can work with cross-functional teams

  • Fast in action but with detailed technical review and good documentation

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, eager to learn continuously

  • Complete military service for male applicants

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master of Science and/or PhD in Materials Science Engineering is preferred

  • Experience in aerospace industry is preferred

  • Experience with and knowledge of aerospace materials and material testing; titanium, nickel, iron etc. based super alloys and their processing and properties

  • Familiarity with shop operations and quality systems

  • Ability to coordinate several tasks/projects simultaneously, strategically prioritize work

  • A self-starter with an eye on problem solving and driving solutions

  • Experience and knowledge of manufacturing processes such as thermal spray, shot peen, chemical processes, welding, brazing, heat treatment etc. and their potential effects on material

  • Understand Lean at Engineering or open to learn and adapt to Lean principles
