Overview of the Role

Reporting to the GCT Head of Tech Strategy, the Director of Strategic Governance & Enablement – Digitization

is responsible to drive the frameworks, forums and decision spaces governing the GCT Technology Digitization Strategies. As a custodian of the GCT end-to-end Digitization strategy (Digital channels, straight-through processing, assisted channels), this leader will collaborate across teams to establish the near and long-term strategies and roadmaps required to modernize, simplify and automate across the consumer technology platforms.

With a keen focus on controls, risk management and metrics, this leader will play a critical role to operationalize the strategies defined and support teams globally to drive to their execution.

This position is a critical strategic role that will partner closely with key technology stakeholders including GCT regional business management teams, COO and GCB Digital teams. This leader is senior technology leader with deep experience in program management, planning, strategy development and operationalization. This leader has exceptional abilities in analysis, critical thinking, communication and influencing, and has a proven track record of working with global teams, aligning stakeholders and thriving in ambiguous situations. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with not only leading and influencing but also diving into the details and rolling up her/his/their sleeves. The role will report directly to the GCT Head of Tech Strategy.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Establish routines and mechanisms to oversee and govern progress in achieving vision, strategy and simplification goals; inclusive of clearly defined metrics and milestones

  • Define, manage, adapt, and communicate a global strategy focused on the Digitization pillars, supporting the Consumer Bank of the Future, addressing all aspects of the technology agenda.

  • Partner with global stakeholders (Technology, Digital, Business) to define targets, operationalize systems and gather metrics.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration and maintaining global alignment.

  • Conduct and incorporate research, insights and competitive analysis as required.

  • Develop approach to drive best-practice sharing and collaboration across regions along defined areas of future growth; provide support and guidance to Regional teams as needed to ensure objectives are met

  • Partner with COO, Finance, and regional CIOs and CDOs on expense investment plans to govern spending on major approved investments, ensuring alignment with both GCT, GCB and Digital strategy

  • Develop, in consultation with Engineering and Architecture teams, an approach to assess the productivity and value impact of new and emerging technologies and develop and lead implementation plans to drive successful adoption of the technologies.

  • Champion an inclusive and diverse global mindset in order to attract a deep and diverse talent pool within the organization that includes effective coaching and development.

Organizational Scope and Accountability

  • Strong interaction with Global Technology teams, within GCT and EIO&T. In addition, strong interaction with senior levels of Business and Digital Strategy teams.

  • Act as the focal point for Technology and Digital leaders in governing GCT and Digital strategies.

  • Ensure consistent approach to risk management across Design and Strategy team

  • Champion an inclusive and diverse global mindset in order to attract a deep and diverse talent pool within the organization that includes effective coaching and development.

  • Evaluate opportunities and enable measurable improvements quickly and best utilize resources, while defining the digital roadmap which matches strategy and direction. Provide guidance to effectively scale regional solutions globally where appropriate.

  • Establish and maintain a high performing, open culture based on integrity and strong partnership and financial responsibility.


The ideal candidate will come from an international organization and be a visionary leader in engineering, technology transformation and strategy. Bachelor degree in computer science, engineering, business or a related field. Masters degree or equivalent experience preferred.

  • 15+ years relevant work experience, including experience leading cross-functional teams across engineering, architecture and product management.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; Data driven and results-oriented.

  • Experience in affecting large culture change.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to work with seamlessly with remote teams

  • Experience delivering with an agile methodology.

  • Capability to define a well thought out organizational strategy and execute on an associated operational plan.

  • Exceptional strategic analysis, problem solving, issue resolution and decision making skills.

  • Leadership skills: individual leadership, change leadership, mentorship, motivation, coaching and development, and the ability to galvanize the support of others where possible.

  • Highly detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and able to embrace change without frustration.

  • Delivery of high-quality strategic large-scale projects.

  • Ability to manage senior staff as well as manage staff remotely across multiple locations, time zones and cultures.

  • Demonstrated track record and ability to influence external organizations.

  • Ability to handle constant pressure and juggle multiple demands.

  • Flexibility with travel.

  • Demonstrated experience evaluating and driving safe, sound processes through review, evaluation, and management of effective controls.

  • Dynamic, engaging style with excellent written and oral communication across different audiences and levels.

  • Ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels within an organization, from the most technical engineer to the most savvy business / executive leader.

  • Possess uncompromising ethics, unwavering integrity and understanding of risk & regulatory process, as well as outstanding communications and interpersonal skills.

  • Familiarity with the major line of business activities within a large global financial institution. Broad financial expertise with knowledge of corporate affairs, financial and economic fundamentals, and business policies, products, processes, systems and roles.
