Biosense Webster is recruiting for a(n) R&D Senior Engineer, located in Irvine, CA.

Atrial fibrillation (AFIB) is a quivering or irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia) that can lead to blood clots, stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications. 20 million people around the world suffer from AFIB each year.

Biosense Webster, Inc. is the global leader in the science of diagnosing and treating heart rhythm disorders. The company established its leadership in electrophysiology with the development of the first real-time, 3D cardiac mapping and navigation technology, as well as the first electrophysiology catheter. The introduction of the company’s CARTO® 3 System in 2009 revolutionized 3D mapping technology by increasing the accuracy, speed, and efficiency of the cardiac ablation procedure.

The R&D Senior Engineer will support project teams in the development of electrophysiology systems, catheters and/or related accessories at Biosense Webster. Project support includes design, design for manufacturing, test method development and product verification and validation testing.

Duties & responsibilities

Under limited supervision and in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, the duties and responsibilities for this position are:

  • Design electrophysiology systems and catheters and/or related accessories (cables, sheaths, tubing etc.)

  • Develops HW/SW design requirements, Top Level Design (TLD) and HW and SW Requirements documents.

  • Responsible for producing HW/SW design specifications, specifically SW Architecture and HW Requirements Specifications.

  • Supervises HW/SW technical design reviews.

  • Ability to self-start and self-direct work with little or no mentorship, comfortable dealing with ambiguity

  • Excellent problem-framing, problem solving and project management skills and ability to change direction quickly

  • Outstanding interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, ability to convey complex technical concepts and considerations to non-technical partners

  • ability to effectively communicate at all levels in the organization

  • Develop HW and SW verification and validation plans, which encompass Unit and Integration testing, Systems testing, IEC 60601 standards testing, and performance and reliability testing

  • Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures

  • Capture VOC from customers

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum B.S ( Electrical Engineering or equivalent) and 4 years of industry experience or M.S. ( Electrical Engineering or equivalent) and 2 years of industry experience is required

  • Experience in development and build tools and applications for system integration, validation, and verification e.g.(automated tests using robots or similar) is required

  • Problem solving and presentation skills are required

  • Collaborative teammate with strong communication skills, written and verbal required

  • Performing analysis and simulation using modeling tools preferred

  • Electrical Engineering is preferred.

  • Experience in Medical Device is preferred

  • Experience with project management methodology, problem solving, and presentation skills preferred

  • Experience with Matlab is preferred

  • Experience with Simulink, Spice, and LabView tools are preferred

  • SW background and hands on experience with C and R are preferred.

  • Ability to lead a technical team is preferred

    Additional position requirements

    Position requires up to 10% travel (global and domestic), to work with vendors and/or customers. Work environment is a combination of office cubicle, prototype lab environment and manufacturing cleanroom.

    RESPONSIBILITY FOR OTHERS (If applicable)

  • The R&D Senior Engineer typically reports to a R&D Staff Engineer or R&D Manager.

  • The R&D Senior Engineer may directly and/or indirectly manage R&D Technicians.

    Physical working conditions / requirements

    Some work may be performed in a clean room environment.

    Location & travel requirements

  • Location: This position is in Irvine, California.

  • Travel: Up to 10% travel (global and domestic) may be required.

    External and internal interactions

    Internally the Senior R&D Engineer will interact daily with various multi-functional team members as part of the product development function.

    Externally, the Senior R&D Engineer is expected to work with suppliers for component development and with customers for product development/feedback activities.
