Definition & Duties
Under supervision, assist Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Coordinator with initiatives to support development, planning, promoting, implementation and evaluation of county diversity, equity, inclusion and engagement initiatives. Assist in policy and program research and creation of communication materials. Assist with planning and staff support for Diversity & Inclusion (D & I) Committee and Ambassadors and local cultural events planning, community engagement initiatives, and other forms of community dialogue. Update contact lists and assist with data collection and organization.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with County employees and members of the public
Keep accurate records and prepare reports

Be detail oriented when working with documents and information
Learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology
Use a computer for the purposes of word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, presentations, email and the internet
Operate common office equipment such as calculators, fax and postage machines, photocopiers, and multi-line telephones
Handle low to moderate levels of stress, meet deadlines and solve problems appropriate to the position
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Follow oral and written instructions
Have clarity of speech and hearing which permits effective communication
Have sufficient vision which permits production and review of a wide variety of materials in both electronic and hardcopy forms
Have sufficient manual dexterity to make handwritten notations which permits moderate to heavy use of a keyboard and mouse
Sit, stand, bend, twist, reach, kneel, squat and climb
Have sufficient personal mobility to complete field work at various facilities/work sites
Lift and/or move up to 35 pounds
Work flexible schedule including evening meetings and occasional weekends
Minimum Education, Training & Experience & Special Requirements
Enrollment in a post-secondary program such as international studies, human resource management, and public administration or a related field OR an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special requirements: Valid driver’s license and insurable under County liability coverage. May also require use of personal transportation or equivalent for official business.

Assist with D & I agenda preparation and meeting minutes, scheduling, and communication.
Attend Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Ambassador meetings, and other assigned community meetings.
Assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of diversity, equity, inclusion and engagement workshops, courses, presentations, learning opportunities and tools.
Assist in developing brochures, flyers, presentations, and educational materials. Support updating and creating content for the County diversity webpages.
Assist with ADA compliance efforts, staff education and training.
Perform research and report on examples of diversity, equity, inclusion and engagement policy and program best practices.
Develop social media communication content.
Provide assistance to local cultural events such as the Johnson County Juneteenth Celebration.
Assist with data collection and organization.
Assist with coordination of Employee Resource Groups.
Participate in assigned professional development opportunities.
Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with County policies, procedures, and safety practices.
Attend work regularly at the designated place and time.
