State of Massachusetts Electrician II in Interchange 14 Trailer, Massachusetts

Position Summary As directed by the Foreman of Building Maintenance or a designee, the incumbent is primarily responsible for performing the duties of an electrician at the journeyman’s level. When not performing duties as previously described, the incumbent may work beneath the journeyman’s level or may be assigned to perform a wide variety of tasks within other building maintenance skilled crafts that do not require a specific license or certification; may direct the work of less skilled employees as required. Duties and Responsibilities: * Receives specific assignments and obtains materials and special tools from stock as required. * Uses all standard and special tools required of primary craft and all standard tools required of tother crafts as necessary. * When performing work at the journeyman level the incumbent: Reads and interprets written instructions, diagrams, and maintenance manuals. Investigates building equipment or structures to identify causes of breakdown or malfunction and repair. * Plans and organizes work to be performed and verifies that all necessary materials and parts are available. * Constructs, assembles, repairs and/or adjust building maintenance equipment and/or highway signs. * Instructs and directs less skilled workers who have been assigned to assist in major projects. * Reports breakdowns, deterioration, or malfunction of building equipment to Foreman as noted during inspection and may recommend remedial action and/or the use of new materials and equipment. * Performs diversified building maintenance work below the journeyman level when not engaged in work of primary craft. * Prepares reports on materials, equipment and time spent on various maintenance projects. * Operates snow removal equipment such as snow blowers and shovels; operates snow plowing and sanding equipment if qualified and licensed; participates in the random DOT Drug & Alcohol testing pool when applicable. * Performs other duties similar in nature and skill level at the above listed duties. * Pump Station duties include preventive maintenance (PM’s) for maintaining, pumping down, assist with cleaning and troubleshooting repair. * Electrical work involved in the installation of new Fastlanes and maintaining existing Fastlanes. * Maintain, perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair existing tolls. * Maintain, perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair areas associated with fan rooms. * Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair toll and traffic tunnel lighting. * Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair street lighting. * Perform preventive maintenance, replace batteries as needed and troubleshoot repair UPS systems. * Work within the State Transportation Building installing and remodeling electrical systems. * Perform preventive maintenance maintaining 15 KV high voltage switch gear. * Adhere and perform lock out/tag out safety procedures. * Design and build electrical applications for new and old building locations. * Control wiring (troubleshoot, maintain, and install. Work closely with the communication department to run raceways for communication equipment. * Perform other related duties as required.
