Job Information

Boehringer Ingelheim Management Trainee Finance & Controlling in Ingelheim, Germany

We develop pioneering therapies and health solutions, many of them crucial for patients’ survival. Our team is made up of 52,000 colleagues worldwide. We are a family company and maintain that family feel despite our size. So we want our people to have it really good – from their salary, to tip-top technical facilities, to job security. (Not to mention our spectacular canteen and trendy cafés on campus …)

Now we are looking for trainees to join our two-year Finance and Controlling program.

Our trainee programs are designed to equip you for your future in a management or expert role with us. On the Discover Circle BI platform, you’ll be networking with 30 to 40 highly creative fellow trainees from all over the world!

Whether Global Business Services, Corporate Finance and Finance Germany or Purchasing, you’ll rotate through lots of different departments, staying in each one for four to five months at a time.

To begin with, we’ll discuss with you which departments would be most relevant and exciting for you.

You’ll start off at the Ingelheim site where you’ll learn about our Controlling tools, familiarize yourself with our systems and get involved in budget planning and long-term forecasting, essentially giving you the opportunity to immerse yourself in our day-to-day business.

You’ll also take responsibility for your own projects, focusing on questions like: Where can we do even better? Where are we perhaps lacking a process? Your creativity is called for, and we can’t wait for your ideas.

As soon as you have mastered the basics, you’ll be deployed in larger-scale, often global projects involving, for example, the international roll-out of new tools.

And after that? We’ll send you abroad for around three months, perhaps to Dubai, Ridgefield (near New York), Shanghai, Amsterdam, Spain, France or Italy. We’ll always try to factor in your wishes when deciding where to assign you.

During your rotation, you will of course get to meet lots of new people. We’ll also appoint a mentor from the senior management team for you. The trainee circle will also meet in regular leadership talks with senior managers from all the different business units in order to discuss work and share experience, knowledge and so on, giving you the chance to establish lots of valuable contacts. The trainee circle also often gives rise to personal friendships too.

Your skills, your experience and what makes you who you are

  • You have just completed a master’s degree in economics. If you have a background in pharmaceuticals or the natural sciences, that’s also great!

  • Some practical experience in accounting, controlling or purchasing would be ideal too.

  • It would also be useful if you’ve already spent an extended period abroad.

  • Your English must be flawless. And if you can also speak German or some other language, then all the better.

  • Our focus in the trainee program is on young professionals, and the rotation will help you to discover where your strengths lie. And even if you already possess some professional experience, you can still feel free to apply.

Things to look forward to

  • You’ll come into contact with some super-exciting themes and subjects. For example, we just launched the world's first drug for generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP), a rare, severe skin disease. You might even get the chance to meet our quantum computing experts. Remember, though, whatever the area, you’ll be viewing everything from a financial perspective.

  • And what else? You and your fellow trainees will get the chance to take part in lots of seminars on, for example, change management as well as negotiation and leadership training. There will of course also be ample opportunity for after-work activities too.

  • Once a year, the trainee circle organizes a big get-together – the ‘Trainee Days’ – in Ingelheim, Vienna or Biberach.

  • We’ll offer as much support and assistance as we can with things like arranging your work visa, looking for an apartment and so on.

  • After two successful years in the trainee program, we’ll then work with you to find the position that best suits you within our company.

Sounds good?

If so, apply now! The application process involves three steps:

Step 1: submit your application via our HR portal. Please include your current transcript of records or a document showing your final grade.

Step 2: take part in an online meeting with Recruiting.

Step 3: we invite the best candidates to a two-day assessment center in Ingelheim (6–7 June 2024).

Travel and accommodation expenses are on us. On the first day, we’ll introduce you to us and our business – think of this as our ‘application’ to you. And on the second day, you’ll have the opportunity to show us what you’re made of.
