Job Overview

The purpose of the Life Skills Instructor is to assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities with working on the goals and objectives they have identified and outlined for themselves to live as independently as possible in the home of their choice.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Teach and instruct others.
  • Communicate effectively in writing.
  • Convey information effectively.
  • Know how to take direction.
  • Work within a team setting.
  • Be able to plan, organize, and prioritize work to the performance of this job description.
  • Responsible for completing all ongoing notes and submitting them to the office at the end of the month.
  • Responsible for accurately completing and submitting Time sheet and Mileage Logs at the time specified by administration.
  • Actively look for methods, ways to help others.
  • Attend In-Service Training.
  • Determine a course of action based upon information or actions of others.
  • Select and use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when working, learning, or teaching new things.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Clean Background check.
  • Clean DMV record.
  • Valid California Drivers License.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Valid Vehicle Insurance and proof of vehicle registration.
  • A minimum of one year of experience with the Intellectually/Developmentally Disabled population
  • Be able to Lift, Stoop, Bend, and pull up to 40 lbs.

Location and Work Environment: NorthStar operates in Riverside County and San Bernardino County. Work environment may include working with clients in their homes or out in the community.
