Alamo Group Inc. PUNCH PRESS OPERATOR in Indianola, Iowa

HERSCHEL PARTS is currently searching for a Punch Press Operator in our Factory Production Press Department at our facility located in Indianola, Iowa.

Position Summary:

Under immediate supervision, prepares and operates power press to trim, punch, shape, notch, draw, or crimp metal stock. Applies general production and machine shop theory and procedures to operate necessary equipment. Plans procedures following specifications and using knowledge gained through experience. Ensures that fabricated parts and components meet Herschel Parts, Inc. standards.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  1. Operates metal power press equipment for the production of Herschel Parts, Inc. line of products using knowledge of routings, bill of materials, feed systems and blueprints

  2. Moves material and/or work piece manually, by hoist or forklift and secures work piece following prescribed safety procedures

  3. Starts press and observes operation to detect misalignment or malfunction

  4. Inspects work pieces for conformance to specifications, visually or using gauges or templates, and notifies setup personnel to correct errors

  5. Cleans and lubricates machines and tooling as required; may perform other routine machine maintenance

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):

  1. Knowledge and basic understanding of metal fabrication and punch press operations

  2. Knowledge of shop math

  3. Able to read and interpret blueprints and bill of materials

  4. Able to perform measurements using tape measure, protractor, square, calipers, gauges and other inspection equipment

  5. Able to use hand and power tools

  6. Able to operate a manual crane hoist, forklift and hand truck

  7. Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

  8. Able to work overtime and/or including weekends as production schedules dictate

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED required with at least 3 months to 3-5 years of previous metal fabrication or related experience preferred.

Working Conditions:

Work performed in a non-climate controlled metal manufacturing production environment, with frequent standing, twisting, bending, stooping for extended periods of time. Occasional (2 to 3 times per day) lifting, pushing or pulling of up to 60 pounds alone and/or with mechanical assistance. Requires sufficient manual dexterity and visual acuity to identify required material and operate punch press following established safety protocol.
