Your Opportunity

We are seeking a Hydrogeologist to join our hydrogeology team with an opportunity to support our expanding business in the Environmental Services Business Lines based out of Stantec's Indianapolis, IN office location.

The Hydrogeologist will report to a Hydrogeologist Team Leader and will support groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling, hydrogeologic investigations, conceptual site model development, GIS analysis, remediation system evaluation, remedial system design, monitoring and maintenance, statistical analysis of geologic and groundwater chemistry data, report writing, and field investigations.

This position interacts with both internal and external clients in field and office settings. The position requires some travel, potentially to remote field sites within the United States.

Your Key Responsibilities

The position will be responsible for analyzing and communicating hydrologic and geologic data to provide insight into critical groundwater flow processes and will support the completion of environmental remediation and water resources projects.

  • Develop conceptual, analytical, and numerical groundwater flow models to support remedial evaluations and risk assessments

  • Interpret aquifer tests, characterize aquifers based on maps and other spatial data, and perform spatial analysis using GIS tools

  • Prepare proposals, develop work plans, schedules, and budgets and management of tasks

  • Prepare technical reports documenting field investigations and analytical results

  • Prepare and deliver presentations of hydrogeologic investigations to internal and external clients

  • Assist project managers with developing project budgets, determining project scope, and establishing project schedules

  • Develop conceptual, analytical, and numerical groundwater flow and contaminant transport models

  • Prepare technical reports which document model development and results

  • Support water supply planning and water use permitting

  • Perform field investigations in support of hydrogeology studies including drilling, well construction, and testing oversight; groundwater sampling; and water level monitoring

  • Collaborate with other scientific and engineering professionals within the practice

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Possess proficient skills in communication and technical information exchange with clients, engineers and scientists, government regulators and agencies, and academia, as well as non-technical communication to the public

  • Ability to mentor junior and intermediate staff and provide input to improve hydrogeologic interpretations or client deliverables

  • Ability to work on several projects or tasks during any given day on a consistent basis

  • Demonstrate sound understanding and application of established practices, standards, and guidelines

  • Assignments/projects are advanced in nature and require the application of mature knowledge

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills: verbal and graphic, business writing, electronic communications and presentations

  • Ability to work independently with little supervision in the field at remote sites and work well with others to achieve group results

  • Must be able to manage time, be organized, and set priorities

  • Practical ability to analyze field and technical data, perform research, demonstrate technical knowledge, problem solve and ability to make timely decisions

  • Maintain a disciplined approach to project execution and technical excellence

  • Travel as required for the purpose of leading field crews, performing environmental monitoring, or off-site meetings with clients and/or regulatory agencies with overnight travel sometimes required

  • Participate in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work

  • Strong technical aptitude. Solid computer skills are a must. Knowledge of groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling software, GIS, Excel, database software, etc., is preferred

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from a Geoscience or Engineering program with an emphasis on the areas of physical and contaminant transport hydrogeology is required; advanced degree preferred

  • Experience and/or course work completed in groundwater modeling is required, experience with MODFLOW software is preferred

  • A minimum of 10 years of hydrogeological experience in consulting, academic, or regulatory environment, regularly using and analyzing hydrogeologic data

  • Existing professional registration or ability to work towards a professional registration (PG. or PE.)

  • Expertise in GIS is required

  • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication are required (record of publications, project reports, and/or public presentations will be requested)
