Senior Global Operational Excellence Manager– Quality

Job Description:

Primary Purpose:

As Senior Global Operational Excellence Manager – Quality, you will spearhead Allison Transmission's dedication to operational excellence by guiding quality initiatives in line with our vision to be the premier global provider of commercial-duty propulsion solutions with a global scope of influence.

Your role within the Global Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement team is crucial for fostering a culture of quality transformation and data-driven collaboration. Tasked with propelling quality advancements, you'll utilize cutting-edge technologies and analytics to refine manufacturing processes and amplify our continuous improvement endeavors worldwide. Your leadership will be instrumental in elevating productivity, efficiency, and market competitiveness through strategic quality enhancements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Uphold and promote the company’s values of quality, integrity, innovation, customer focus, and teamwork.

  • Develop a clear vision and strategy for the implementation of the Allison Operational Excellence System (AOES) with a focus on restructuring the Quality System pillar.

  • Integrate Lean principles and tools, such as value stream mapping, Kaizen, 5S, and Six Sigma, into the Quality System pillar. Ensure that Lean practices become an integral part of the organization's culture and way of working.

  • Influence Plant Directors and lead Plant Quality Managers (locally, nationally, globally) and their teams to ensure compliance with internal standards and external regulations.

  • Ownership of managing the plant execution of the quality assurance systems, including ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 certifications.

  • Partner with Product Engineering, Central Quality, Supplier Quality and Manufacturing Engineering teams to integrate quality control into all phases of production. Analyses data from global operations to identify areas for quality improvement.

  • Uses data from global operations to create action plans, driving continuous improvement efforts.

  • Ensure customer satisfaction through robust quality assurance processes.

  • Report quality metrics and performance to executive leadership and relevant stakeholders.

  • Creates action plans and drives change to address concerns related quality metrics, systems, and processes.

  • Intermittent travel is expected (up to 25%) for this role.

  • This role does not have supervisory responsibilty at this time, but could expand in the future.

    Key Performance Measures

The success of the Senior Global Operational Excellence Manager – Quality, at Allison Transmission can be measured through the following five major key performance indicators (KPIs):

  • Operational Excellence Alignment : Effective integration and advancement of the Allison Operational Excellence System within the quality domain.

  • Quality Metrics Achievement: Tangible improvements in product quality, evidenced by reductions in defect rates, customer complaints, and warranty claims.

  • Data-Driven Impact: Enhanced operational efficiency and decision-making through strategic use of data and analytics.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Positive feedback from stakeholders and successful cultivation of a culture of quality and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, Supervisory, Technical or a related field

Preferred:

  • Microsoft Power Platform certifications

  • Certifications in Six Sigma, PMP, CQE, CMfgE or Shannon Red X.

  • Masters Degree in Engineering, Business, or Technical related field.

Experience

Required:

  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing operations including experience in continuous improvement and problem-solving complex quality challenges using data analytics.

  • Experience with Integrated Management System (TS16949, ISO9001)

  • 5+ years of experience in Project Management

Preferred:

  • 15+ years of experience in manufacturing operations including experience in continuous improvement and problem-solving complex quality challenges using data analytics.

  • 7+ years of experience in Project Management

  • Prior experience in Quality Manager role or similar role with a strong influence on the Quality organization.

  • Technical Communication Skills: Ability to understand, speak to, and articulate the tools to solve complex problems including what the next steps are to understand and solve the defect / problem.

  • Project Management: Strong project management skills, including planning, execution, and monitoring of quality initiatives within operations.

  • Continuous Improvement Knowledge: Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies, such as six sigma, kaizen, Shainin Red-x, and the ability to apply them to enhance efficiency.

  • Quality Competency: Excellence-driven mindset, ensuring all processes and outcomes meet the highest standards. Proactive in establishing and maintaining rigorous quality control and assurance protocols.

  • Customer Focus: Ability to understand and anticipate customer needs to enhance satisfaction. Personalize engagement strategies to align with customer expectations and success.

  • Integrity: Uphold ethical standards, transparency, and honesty in all operations. Ensures accountability and consistency in quality practices.

  • Innovation: Encourage creative problem-solving to improve products and processes. Lead the adoption of new technologies and methodologies to add value.

  • Travel may be required for this position in the future, up to 25%.
