Position Summary

Position is responsible for everyday operational tasks at assigned park location under the supervision and direction of the Pool Manager or Head Lifeguard.

Position Responsibilities

Lifeguards and scans assigned zone of protection.

Enforces rules and performs proper rotation.

Provides safety assistance, rescues, emergency actions and first aid when necessary.

Monitors participants and users of the facility.

Provides the highest attention to safety for participants, self and fellow employees.

Follows all established protocol for biohazard materials.

Follows all aquatic facility rules and protects self from sun exposure.

Immediately reports any hazardous conditions to supervisor, including inability or scan zone due to weather or other conditions.

Maintains minimum number of in-service hours required by department and meet minimum standards for both independent and internal performance audits.

Cleans and polices grounds, pool deck and bath house facilities.

Assists with accident reports, chemical level testing and reporting, answering phones, communicating with the public, facility inspections and pool vacuuming.

Teaches, coaches, and assists with lessons, swim team, other programs and special events at location.

Provides for the supervision and safe operation of all aquatic programs.

Answers phones and communicates with the public.

Assists with water testing, third party accident reports, program registration and class lists and swim lesson records.

Adheres to department policy and procedure at aquatic location.

Qualifications

High school diploma and/or equivalent preferred. Licenses/Certifications required or ability to obtain: Lifeguard License required. Water Safety Instructor desired. Ability to communicate effectively. Customer service and people oriented. Ability to follow established procedures, policies and protocol.

Independent Judgment

Established policies and procedures control actions. Independent judgment is utilized when there are no available policies and procedures and errors in judgment may cause serious risk and significant liability. Incumbent will be required to exercise good judgment in the areas of aquatic safety. Incumbent will be required to make quick, concise and correct decisions that may affect the health, safety and well being of pool patrons and staff. This position will work under the supervision of the Park Manager, Pool Manager or Head Lifeguard.
