Position Summary

Position is responsible for working with other Garfield Park Arts Center (GPAC) staff to plan, promote, and execute high-quality arts exhibits, programs, and special events. Positions provides excellent customer services as it facilitates creative experiences for the public and maintains a safe, clean, organized, and secure facility.

Position Responsibilities

Assists with planning, promoting, and execution of GPAC programs, facility rentals, outreach programs, exhibits, and special events.

Assists with youth and family visual and performing arts programs for regular and special events. Assists with arts education initiatives including summer arts day camp and "Arts for All" program, which may include teaching, registration, supplies, and daily program operations.

Promotes the GPAC and creates marketing content utilizing community calendars, social media, websites, and hard copy promotion.

Compiles, maintains, and utilizes the GPAC email subscriber list.

Writes all GPAC media advisories.

Assists with the coordination, writing, and compiling of the Fun Guide for Garfield Park.

Maintains GPAC social media and website, which may include video and audio production.

Serves as customer service representative including taking registrations, managing rentals, conducting facility tours, and maintaining client relations.

Maintains cleanliness and attractiveness of GPAC facility interior and select exterior areas.

Opens and/or closes the GPAC daily including AED and security checks, mail, dehumidifiers, doors, lights, music, etc.

Evaluates arts and janitorial supplies and reports purchasing needs to GPAC Management.

Attends monthly Arts Council Arts Marketers meetings.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Arts Administration, Recreation or related field preferred. One (1) year of related work experience may be substituted for each year of formal education. Must be at least 21 years of age. Ability to work productively under general supervision. Must be self-motivated, organized and dependable. Must have exceptional written and oral communication skills. This position requires extreme attention to detail and highly developed organizational skills. Must be customer service oriented. Licenses/Certifications required: Ability to obtain: CPR and First Aid Teaching Certificate. Design experience and strong community involvement in the arts a plus.

Independent Judgment

Established policies and procedures control actions. Arts Specialist is required to exercise occasional independent judgment. This position operates in an isolated condition and may be without direct on-site supervision. Independent judgment is used daily in customer service interactions, classroom settings, creation of marketing documents, following established financial control procedures, and program development. Interacts with the community, other divisions, departments and agencies, public officials and various city, state and local officials, in an independent atmosphere. Ability to recognize the need for intervention with any aspect of the job and to notify the immediate supervisor accordingly is critical.
