Position Summary

Position is responsible for the preparation, monitoring and maintaining of financial reports concerning revenues, property taxes, and units of government for the Marion County Treasurer’s Office for internal and external purposes. Position will perform analysis of financial activity regarding management and statistical reports for the Marion County Treasurer’s Office. In addition, the position will conduct monthly reconciliation of a variety of banking and trust accounts used for the receipt and tracking of $2 billion in property tax and related revenues.

Position Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the preparation of documents for the Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports for the County and preparing supporting schedules.

  • Assists in the creation and documentation of accounting policy and procedures.

  • Responsible for the reconciliation of monthly bank and trust statements to verify and confirm all transactions and balances.

  • Coordinates audit activities with the City and County external auditors and all City and County agencies.

  • Responsible for the review and analysis of revenues, expenditures and balance sheet accounts.

  • Responsible for the review of computer-generated data to determine if approved accounting procedures and accuracy was followed in recording transactions.

  • Responsible for special projects and application of State and Federal reporting compliance.

  • Responsible for development of management, narrative and statistical reports for the Treasurer’s Office.

  • Analyzes complex financial data and extract and define relevant information.

  • Interprets data for the purpose of determining past financial performance and/or to project a financial probability.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in math, accounting, business, public finance or related field required with four (4) to (6) years of previous experience. Must have at least one (1) to two (2) years of experience with a public accounting firm, government finance office or internal audit function of a firm. Proficiency in the use of software application, Microsoft Office, databases, spreadsheets and word processing required. Must be able to present complex data and speak and write clearly and effectively. Must possess high degree of analytical ability. Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding and deal with problems involving multiple variables.

Independent judgment is regularly utilized when there are no policies are procedures in place. Employee may exercise independent judgment in selecting most pertinent guidelines, interpret precedents, adapt standard practices to differing situations and recommend alternative actions.
