Job Description:

H&E Equipment Services has an immediate opening for a Class A CDL Driver. A Class A CDL Driver is responsible for safely loading, securing, delivering, and unloading heavy equipment to the customer’s job site in a safe manner in compliance with local, state and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. Rental equipment will be picked up, loaded, and secured for return to the branch. The Class A CDL Driver will be driving a truck and/or tractor-semi trailer (flatbed) combination vehicle ion excess of 26,001 pounds.

Class A CDL Driver Key Responsibilities:

  • Route Planning & Load Management: Strategically plan delivery routes considering load weight, dimensions, road conditions, and construction factors. Secure equipment loads effectively to prevent shifting during transit.

  • Documentation & Compliance: Verify and maintain accurate bill of lading (BOL) and shipping documentation for each delivery. Secure necessary weight, oversized permits, and clearances prior to transport.

  • Vehicle Inspection: Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of tractor, trailer, and securements. Ensure vehicles are safe for travel and report any maintenance or repair needs promptly.

  • Weight Distribution: Properly distribute weight based on trailer size and axle count to ensure safe and compliant transport.

  • Safety & Reporting: Adhere to safety protocols, including ensuring load heights meet interstate bridge clearances and flagging and placarding vehicles appropriately. Report equipment or vehicle issues immediately to branch management.

  • Electronic Logging & Paperwork: Utilize Electronic Logging Device (ELD) for accurate tracking and ensure all necessary paperwork is completed and maintained daily.

  • Customer Interaction: Provide basic equipment usage training to customers as required.

  • Additional Duties: Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Class A CDL Qualifications:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Age & Experience: Minimum age of 21 with at least one year of combination tractor-trailer flatbed experience.

  • Certifications: Valid Class A CDL from resident state and DOT medical certificate required.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with FMCSA Hours of Service regulations and ability to operate an ELD.

  • Driving Record: Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and Commercial Driver’s License Information System (CDLIS) showing no disqualifying traffic convictions as defined by FMCSA.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to travel daily to customer job sites and handle physical demands of the job.
