The Buyer-Planner II is responsible for the execution of planning and procurement activities of assigned value streams in support of world-class delivery and inventory performance. This position creates and maintains finite production schedules and ensures on-time material availability. This position works cross-functionally to resolve exceptions related to production planning and materials. This position is responsible for maintaining data associated with production planning and materials in the ERP system, as well as gathering and reporting data associated with key supply chain metrics.

  • Create and maintain finite production schedules for the planning horizon that allow the plant to meet customer demand.

  • Analyze and recommend for implementation planning parameters and strategies designed to improve production execution, capacity management, and inventory performance.

  • Work cross-functionally to communicate and resolve planning exceptions; track and maintain data for on-time delivery performance.

  • Participate actively in SIOP process and work cross functionally to identify and resolve capacity issues.

  • Execute procurement activities for direct and/or indirect materials to provide for the necessary flow of purchased material into the plant to support production plans and inventory targets, including maintenance of plant Kanban system.

  • Analyze and recommend for implementation material parameters and strategies designed to improve production execution and inventory performance.

  • Work cross functionally to communicate and resolve exceptions related to materials including late deliveries, inventory discrepancies, supplier non-conformance, and invoicing.

  • Ownership of materials management activities, including dispositioning expired, excess, and obsolete inventory, monitoring shelf life of products for risk, materials change management and associated reporting and documentation.

  • Act as first point of contact for vendors in support of day-to-day operations.

  • Develop and maintain tools and metrics in daily monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Provide planning and SAP configuration support for products transferring from affiliate plants.

  • Manage services with the external warehouse and third-party packaging suppliers.

  • Travel to conduct inventory audits at off-site locations or supplier visits as needed.

  • Follow all policies and procedures related to purchasing & procurement.

  • Ad-hoc supply chain reporting requests as needed.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited university.

  • 1-3 years of experience in the field of materials management and/or experience in dealing with similar materials purchased by the facility.

  • Experience in or a working knowledge of SAP (or comparable ERP/MRP system)

  • Experience with standard production planning and/or inventory control practices.

  • Experience in materials management in a high-volume, high-complexity manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to think critically to develop processes, plans, and strategies for achieving goals.

  • Ability to master the utilization of MRP tools and methodologies.

  • General understanding of inventory management processes and tools.

  • In depth knowledge of SAP transactions and processes.

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written and/or verbal procedures, processes, and instructions.

  • Demonstrated computer literacy, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and SAP software.

  • Ability to work independent of direct supervision.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment with management and coworkers.

  • Ability to complete the job without direct threat or significant risk to the health and safety of self or others.

  • Demonstrated effort toward self-improvement by gaining new knowledge/skills and accepting new assignments.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science in a Supply Chain-related field

  • APICS CSCP or CPIM

  • Knowledge of and/or experience with SAP as it relates to materials/inventory control

  • Knowledge of the plant production processes

  • Knowledge of Lean or comparable continuous improvement philosophies and tools
