The Diabetes, Obesity and Complications Therapeutic Area (DOCTA) of Eli Lilly and Company, focuses on the discovery of biologic, small molecule and genetic therapeutics for the treatment of diabetes, obesity and associated complications.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated individual to help build a collaborative, successful drug discovery team in the Obesity research group in Indianapolis. The candidate will use their strong in vivo pharmacology background and lab skills to support discovery efforts and pipeline projects focused on anti-obesity therapeutics. Responsibilities include setting up key lab capabilities and working with scientists across departments to achieve project and department goals.

Key responsibilities include :

  • Develop and implement cell culture based bio-assays, compound screening and cellular functional assays.

  • Perform molecular, biochemical and histological assessments on biological samples.

  • Conduct routine rodent handling, dosing, tissue collection and surgeries.

  • Function independently, work within team-oriented lab environment and cross-functional project teams.

  • Requirement for accurate record keeping, independent data analysis, and reporting of data in written and oral formats. Will perform work in full compliance with Lilly Research Policies and complete all required training activities in the timeframe specified.

Minimum qualifications:

  • B.S. in biology, neuroscience or a closely related field

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • 0-2 years of laboratory experience and a background in the neurobiology of body weight regulation is a plus.

  • Experience with various molecular and biochemical technologies (PCR, fluorescence, luminescence, FRET, alpha-screen, Western blot) and ability to implement and validate new assays.

  • Experience with microscopy and histology techniques.

  • Ability to plan and implement in vivo experiments to support preclinical characterization and evaluation of targets/pathways that regulate energy balance.

  • Demonstrated ability to work on cross-functional teams and projects.

  • Strong communication skills and experience presenting data in a team environment.
