Burrell Behavioral Health is seeking a Professional parent to join our FLA Program in the Kansas City, Missouri area!

A professional Parent provides comprehensive care for kids and adults, ensuring safety, wellbeing, and growth. Duties cover meeting physical needs, supplying emotional support, crafting development-boosting activities, communicating regularly with parents, and setting clear boundaries. Crucial qualities include solid behavior management, conflict resolution, flexibility, reliability, and warmth. Overall, becoming a trusted professional Parent requires striking a balance between discipline, affection, structure, and engagement, resulting in happy and fulfilled charges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety and supervision - Ensuring the safety and security of the children at all times is one of the most crucial responsibilities of a professional parent. They must constantly monitor the children's activities, prevent accidents, and respond appropriately during emergencies.

  • Childcare and household chores - Providing daily childcare services, including preparing meals, cleaning up after meals, doing laundry, tidying up toys, and other light housekeeping tasks related to taking care of the children.

  • Developing learning opportunities - Planning and implementing educational and recreational activities designed to foster cognitive, language, social, emotional, and physical growth and development.

  • Behavior management - Setting appropriate limits and consequences, encouraging good behavior, teaching self-regulation, and managing challenging behaviors effectively.

  • Communication - Maintaining open lines of communication with parents about the child's day, achievements, challenges, and overall well-being.

  • Health and hygiene - Administering medications when needed, ensuring proper handwashing before eating and after using the bathroom, promoting dental health through regular brushing, and recognizing signs of illness in the child.

  • Transportation - Driving the children to school, appointments, sports practice, playdates, and other events as directed by the employer.

  • Confidentiality - Respecting the privacy of the family and keeping personal information confidential.

  • Flexibility and availability - Being available to work on holidays, weekends, evenings, or overnight shifts, depending on the family's schedule and needs.

  • Time management - Managing schedules, deadlines, and priorities efficiently and effectively, demonstrating reliability and punctuality consistently.

Education and/or Experience Qualifications:

  • This is a contract position. The contractor must be at least 25 years of age

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Must pass State background checks, complete our initial 40-hour training, and then be licensed by the MO Department of Mental Health. (This is not a foster care service). We will guide you through the whole process. All adults who live in the home permanently or intermittently must also pass a background check.

  • Some form of work experience with children and teenagers is preferred, but not required. Your life experience counts! What we really want is someone who has the qualities to help kids deeply and to collaborate with parents.

Additional Qualifications:

• A valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
