Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Safety Professional to work in our Environment, Health, Safety and Quality department. Our team works a 4x10 onsite schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every Friday off.

You will report to the Environment,Safety, Health and Quality Infrastructure Transformation Program Manager and you will take actions to ensure safe, secure, and environmentally compliant operations and spaces, and to maintain activities within the approved safety envelope. Stop work on any activity or operation when continued operations deems unsafe or results in an environmental concern.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead safety professional on projects or tasks and provides technical support and solutions to line organization’s missions and goals using knowledge of safety principles, engineering, industrial materials and processes, applicable regulatory requirements and standards as an experienced staff member. Resolve multiple issues in creative ways.
  • Provide technical support and solutions to the work organization for implementation of industrial safety program.
  • Serve on hazard evaluation groups to identify, analyze and control hazards. Assignments are broad in nature, usually requiring originality and ingenuity. Provide support on management assessments pertaining to occupational safety and establishing methods for completion.
  • Perform technical assignments for the home organization as directed by the manager/lead or designee. Be the Technical Contact (TPOC) on an assigned safety specialty.
  • Achieve and maintain professional qualification following the Industrial Safety Qualification program. Complete training plan for position. Take actions to stay up to date with new developments in industrial safety. Maintain relationships of trust with co-workers and customers.
  • Provide follow-up investigation and analysis of industrial safety related accidents, illnesses and events. Assist management and employee safety team members on accident investigation and in determining the cause observing company procedures. Assist management in completion of accident documentation. Discuss with the appropriate manager the case management of day away incidents.
  • Mentor junior staff in a broad base of industrial safety topical areas. Leads safety engineering and peer review within organization. Sought out for peer review by others.

*Minimum Requirements: * * PR0200: A Bachelor of Science in industrial safety or related safety field and 2 years relative experience, or Masters of Science in industrial safety or related safety field and one year experience. * PR0300: A Bachelor of Science in Industrial Safety/Occupational Safety and Health with five (5) years relative experience, or Masters of Science in Industrial Safety/Occupational Safety and Health or related degree with three (3) year of experience. A Certified Safety Professional Designation is desired but not required. * Upon hire must meet minimum internal Qualifications for STD-14101 for a safety engineer within 6 months. * This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

  • Salary Grade: PR0200 - 190 ($72,528 - $119,652) / PR0300 - 200 ($83,412 - $137,592)

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
