Do you want to help build backend API services that empower customer creativity and productivity in the modern, highly collaborative workplace? We are looking for a Software Engineer II with experience building and shipping global API platform services to join us in working on Microsoft Whiteboard (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/microsoft-whiteboard/digital-whiteboard-app) .

Whiteboard is a part of Visual Collab org. This org is building the services and experiences for the era of AI. This visual collaboration canvas in Microsoft 365 is designed for flexible work and learning. Whiteboard engineers design and build the technology to power new, large-scale, highly collaborative experiences for Surface Hub, Teams, desktop, mobile, and web. We work in close partnership with the Teams and Surface teams to jointly deliver delightful, end-to-end collaborative inking experiences and accessible meetings to our customers. We also work closely with the OneDrive / SharePoint and Fluid Framework teams to provide compliant storage for our customers.

Responsibilities

As a Software Engineer II in Whiteboard Services, you will help us maintain and grow the Whiteboard backend API services, built with C# / ASP.NET technology and hosted in Microsoft Azure. We have a core responsibility to our customers to ensure our API services are fast, reliable, and fully compliant with customer data handling practices and meet continuously evolving security requirements.

You will perform tasks like API feature development, automated test development, bug fixing, and resolving security or compliance issues. You will handle infrastructure and code deployments, participate in the team’s on-call rotation, and perform root cause analysis for infrastructure and API service issues. You will participate in team efforts to improve product security, privacy, reliability, and performance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience shipping and maintaining cloud services on Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, or similar public clouds.

  • Experience developing code with C# / .NET framework.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science

  • OR related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript,

  • OR Python

  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering, cloud platform engineering, site reliability engineering (SRE), or similar roles.

  • Experience designing web APIs using ASP.NET.

  • Experience developing solutions that use cloud blob storage or database storage (ex: Azure storage, Azure Cosmos DB).

  • Experience developing solutions with microservices technologies (containers, Azure Service Fabric, Kubernetes, etc).

  • Experience implementing authentication using Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory).

  • Experience designing or maintaining cloud networking solutions (ex: Azure Front Door, Azure Load Balancer, Azure Traffic Manager, Azure Virtual Networks, etc).

  • Experience creating or maintaining dev OPS toolchains, such as build and release pipelines using Azure DevOps.
