Position Summary
In this WorldWide Patient Safety (WWPS) Publications role, you will be responsible for creating and managing scientific communication materials supporting the science of pharmacovigilance while working collaboratively with the epidemiology, global risk management, safety scientists, medical therapeutic leads, and forming relationships with the global publication team. To be successful in this position, you should have a strong background in process of medical writing, detailed knowledge of submission process to scientific journals and conferences and keen understanding in the oversight and management of scientific publications. Data dissemination includes but not limited to manuscripts, abstracts, oral presentations, posters, white papers, and publication summaries. Additionally, you will need to be able to effectively plan, track publications and provide support in preparing the publication strategy. Key Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities:
Support and maintain WWPS publications strategy and tactical plan in support of WWPS mission and goals, ensuring alignment with WWPS and cross-functional stakeholders as needed
Perform literature gap analyses to feed into the WWPS research and innovation strategy
Interpret, synthesize and communicate complex scientific and business data both internally and externally to advance understanding and to support evidence-based decisions
Critically evaluate data and translate information into succinct scientific narrative
Develop and maintain calendar of professional and scientific conferences, seminars, industry fora, and support conference planning across WWPS
Prepare and/or edit manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals and publications
Prepare abstracts and presentations for submission and presentation at scientific conferences
Develop and review manuscripts, abstracts, posters, presentations, and scientific communications to ensure appropriate evaluation and presentation of data, methodology, interpretation, and alliance with business/communication objectives.
Ensure scientific content meets standards for quality, credibility and clarity
Play a key role in ensuring scientific communication deliverables are completed in a timely manner with stakeholder satisfaction
Meet project milestones and escalate challenges as needed to ensure projects remain on track
Track development and delivery of publications body of work, and communicate progress and decisions clearly and regularly to internal and external stakeholders
Support the tracking of departmental conference budget
Create and deploy pre- and post-conference materials for attendees (includes conference summary, abstracts of interest, Q&A)
Ensure communication of conference insights through different communication channels to WWPS (eg, newsletters, WWPS chats, etc); leverage insights to inform additional scientific publication deliverables
Develop and maintain repository of medical and technical journals and requirements; support authors in target conference and journal selection
Define, monitor and report metrics and key performance indicators for publications
Serve as internal subject matter expert on BMS good publication practice and WWPS standards, supporting internal and external authors in the content development and review process
Other Responsibilities:
Conducts business in accordance with BMS Values. Completes all assigned SOPs and training within designated timeframe and adheres to job-specific SOPs and work instructions
Support hiring, training, mentorship and development of staff within group and WWPS as needed
Participates in external meetings/seminars and/or internal learning and development programs to enhance professional skillset, therapeutic area knowledge, and broaden pharmaceutical industry experience
Lead and/or contribute to WWPS strategic initiatives to support individual and organizational development
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's or advanced degree (eg, MS, PhD, MD or PharmD) in science, medicine, pharmacy, or other allied health field required
MS or PhD degree preferred
5 years of experience as a Medical Writer in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry or 5 years of experience in clinical/scientific research is preferred
Familiarity with laws, regulations, standards, and guidance governing scientific publications required
Medical device, pharmaceutical, biotech, or other regulated industry experience desired
Excellent writing and presentation skills, tailoring deliverables to align with target audience needs
Demonstrates a high level of intellectual curiosity, coupled with critical thinking to analyze information and translate meaningful insights relevant to our business and strategic initiatives
A style that is equally comfortable working independently and as part of a team
High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize assignments while handling various projects simultaneously
Excellent communications skills
Project management and budget skills, with demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects, and to solve problems working with multidisciplinary teams
