Job Description Summary

The Lead Engineer – Mechanical Component within the SP Service ISD Engineering organization will provide technical support for the mechanical design and manufacturing for all Steam Turbine Blade technology, applied globally across GE SP Service. This shall include responsibility to support and supervise manufacturing and for the development and preparation of technical designs and documentation for Steam Turbine Blades.

Job Description

Your Role/ Responsibilities

Demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives in the field of Steampath Engineering. Integrates and develops processes that meet business needs across the organization. Involved in long-term planning. This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within Steampath Engineering.

  • Creation of detailed manufacturing documentation (3D models, drawings, BoMs) of Mechanical Steampath components (mainly blades) and release them to internal and/or external customers (factories, sourcing teams) using Steam Power tools.

  • Review and approve documentation of other team members to facilitate the quality processes.

  • Closely cooperate with other team members.

  • Lead and facilitate interactions between the GE engineering teams responsible for blading design and the blade suppliers.

  • Review NCR’s from factories and provide engineering disposition.

  • Support new product qualification for Steam Turbine Blade manufacturing.

  • Cooperation with factories and other parties participating in project realization.

  • Support engineering and manufacturing planning activities.

  • Learn and share knowledge with other team members and suppliers, building sustainable engineering knowledge with the suppliers.

  • Contribute to root cause analysis and problem-solving tasks.

  • Lead activities to improve the manufacturing processes for Steam Turbine Blades.

  • Open to travel globally to GE sites and suppliers as required.

  • Working closely with global Teams.

Basic Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years working in Engineering capacity. Direct experience in turbomachinery and manufacturing is required.

Desired Qualifications

  • Able to interface effectively with all levels of the engineering organizations and blade manufacturer as well as represent GE externally with customers/suppliers.

  • Sound knowledge and experience of design principles for turbomachinery blading: Stationary and rotating blades.

  • Strong understanding in blade manufacturing including special processes and manufacturing tools.

  • Skilled in using state of the art CAD design tools (preferred CATIA V5) for design, creation and checking of manufacturing documentation (3D model and drawing).

  • Problem analysis and resolution skills.

  • A positive attitude with high level of self-motivation.

  • Good collaborator working in international teams.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills in English (verbal and written).

  • Strong skills in learning and applying a broad variety of state of the art and inhouse engineering- and design tools.
