Amazon Grid Delivery Manager, AWS Infrastructure Energy Team in Hyderabad, India

Description

Amazon is looking for a results-oriented individual to join the AWS Infrastructure Energy Team (IET) in Amazon Data Services India Private Limited. The Grid Delivery Manager is responsible for overseeing the delivery of Extra High Voltage (EHV) substations and transmission lines projects in India. The role involves extensive collaboration with internal teams, power utilities, and regulators to ensure projects are delivered on time. The candidate will engage with power utilities in prospecting for and securing the power needed for AWS's business growth. The candidate must be able to manage multiple projects and help evaluate potential technical, commercial and business opportunities in the energy space.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong energy and project management background that enables them to engage with both internal business partners and external energy stakeholders. They will demonstrate an ability to think strategically about our business, our technical challenges and have a skill-set to drive tactical execution of contracts, energy initiatives and team goals. By establishing and growing business and technical relationships, and managing the day-to-day interactions with these partners, you will be responsible for meeting the energy team objectives to support AWS’s infrastructure expansion in India.

Key job responsibilities

• Manage the interconnection of AWS data centers in the region to the electric grid by working with utilities and local authorities.

• Collaborate with internal teams including engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning to coordinate project activities and resolve any issues that may arise during project execution.

• Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including power utilities, regulators, suppliers, contractors, and consultants.

• Interface with power utilities and regulatory bodies to obtain necessary approvals and permits for project implementation.

• Manage capital budgets for electrical infrastructure improvements.

• Monitor project progress and performance, identify risks and issues, and implement mitigation measures to ensure successful project delivery.

• Provide regular project updates to senior management and stakeholders, including progress reports, financial updates, region strategy documents and risk assessments.

• Collaborate with the Infrastructure Energy Team on the implementation and management of energy and projects in a timely and accurate fashion.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) required in Engineering/Business or other technical field.

• 5+ years of experience working in India in utility/renewables/energy industry in a commercial/business development or technical role.

• High level technical understanding of HV Transmission Line and substations.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.

• Strong analytical and commercial skill set to review utility tariffs, energy projects and power contracts

• The ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.

• Proven track record for cultivating strong relationships with key client and supplier stakeholders that have resulted in high customer satisfaction.

• Demonstrated ability to operate and thrive with partial information and high levels of ambiguity.

• Ability to self-start and self-motivate in a dynamic environment.

• Experience in budgeting and analyzing cost/benefit trade-offs across a strategic portfolio.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with or for utilities and energy regulators.

• Proficiency in English, and local Indian languages

• Basic understanding of IT infrastructure, data centers and cloud services.

• The ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.

• Experience successfully negotiating new tariff rates, power purchase agreements and/or energy infrastructure contracts in regulatory regimes.

• Experience working directly with public utility commissions and other energy regulators.

• Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives.
