Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Environmental Services practice seeks a Project Manager with demonstrated experience in Massachusetts, to lead environmental regulatory and project permitting efforts, supervise and mentor staff, provide project and client management, and support business development opportunities.

Your Key Responsibilities

Environmental regulatory and permitting responsibilities include identifying project-specific environmental regulatory requirements; coordinating with resource agency personnel; writing and reviewing technical reports; developing environmental permit applications (federal, state, and local); presenting at public meetings; and facilitating successful environmental permitting of multiple and varied projects.

Project management responsibilities may include developing proposals; managing projects and budgets; building and managing project teams; coordinating with clients, subcontractors, stakeholders, and internal project staff; and performing and overseeing project technical work. Business development responsibilities may include maintaining existing client relations and collaborating to develop and pursue new clients and opportunities. Additional responsibilities may include coordinating, conducting, and/or leading field work.

The Project Manager must solve problems of significant complexity by providing original, innovative, practical, and economical solutions. Work involves planning, directing, and coordinating complex assignments/projects, modifying established guidelines, and initiating new approaches.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrated experience with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permitting in Massachusetts including regulatory coordination and permit application development.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply environmental compliance and permitting regulations such as the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, MESA, MEPA, CEPA, Chapter 91 and Sections 401, 404, and 408 of the Clean Water Act.

  • Ability to effectively present information and represent clients in a public setting, such as a local conservation commission meeting or public informational meeting.

  • Minimum of 5 years of project management and permitting experience is preferred.

  • Experience permitting large scale energy projects is preferred.

  • Knowledge of documents related to requests for proposals, invitations for bid and tendering offers.

  • "Hands-on" experience in managing permitting applications and projects from start to finish.

  • Knowledge of computer applications and functions, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Proven experience working in a team environment.

  • Ability to review project work, quantities, costs, accuracy of specifications, completeness, and constructability.

  • Demonstrated experience meeting project deadlines in a cost-effective manner.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including advanced technical writing abilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and establish positive working relationships.

  • Must be able to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.

  • Ability to perform work accurately in a detailed-oriented environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare clear and concise reports, procedures, correspondence and other written materials.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree in environmental science, law degree, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years’ work experience in the consulting field; or an equivalent combination of education (e.g., advanced degree) and experience.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time or ability to work remotely and independently from a home office. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather and active construction sites.
