General Requirements:

Experience using different teaching methods which might include case-based learning, ‘flipped classroom’, problem-based learning, interactive large group presentation, audience response systems, curriculum delivery systems (e.g. Canvas or Blackboard), and proficiency in exam item ( COMLEX and/or USMLE ) writing; experience with curricular and instructional design; and effective communication skills. Engages in scholarly activities, publishes and presents research in appropriate journals and conferences.

Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:

Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking a full-time, tenure or non-tenure track faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

The successful candidate will contribute to, and/or direct the development and delivery of Physiology curriculum in foundational and systems-based courses. Collaborate with faculty in other departments to provide a highly integrated curriculum. Provide instruction using various methods of content delivery, including large and small group discussions, team-based learning, case-based learning, and other interactive approaches. Participate in the writing of exam questions based on COMLEX - USA and USMLE styles. Maintain scholarly activities, including application for research grants, dissemination of research findings in peer-reviewed journals, and conference attendance. Mentor research projects involving osteopathic medical students’ participation. Act as a faculty advisor and participate in selection of students. Participate in the university and college committee services.

The successful candidate will help improve and deliver the curriculum and education of osteopathic medical students in the area of physiology and the integration of that discipline into the overall curriculum. Participates in the writing of test questions based on NBOME and NBME styles. Applies for research grants. Performs other duties as assigned.
