Overview

Axient is seeking a Structural Strength Test Mechanical Engineering Technician IV to support our NASA customer at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL.

You will receive direction from the Department Manager or Team Leads, and must be able to work from written and verbal instructions.

You will perform other duties as required to fulfill the mission of the MSFC Structural Strength Testing Branch. We believe that our culture has a direct influence on the job satisfaction of our employees and is reflected in the outstanding quality of service received by our customers!

Responsibilities

The primary role will be to support NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center’s Structural Strength Test Branch and contractor personnel in support of NASA research and development, configuration and maintenance of test article systems and testing infrastructure.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assembling space flight test articles

  • Performing routine maintenance

  • Installation/integration of various types of mechanical and instrumentation components such as strain gauges, pressure transducers, thermocouples, load cells, hydraulic actuators, tubing, etc.

  • High Bay, Lab, Test Stands

Qualifications

Required Experience/Education :

  • 5 years of related experience

  • Associates Degree or High School diploma and/or equivalent technical experience.

  • Experience should include a working knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Windows Operating. Systems (OS) for personal computers and MS Office products.

Preferred Experience:

  • Background installing strain gages, instrumentation applications, data collection, network maintenance, electrical assembly, soldering, crimping, fabricating various types of cables/connectors.

  • Digital audio/video equipment installation and operation

  • Experience with forklifts, aerial lifts, bridge cranes, rigging, and heavy equipment

Work Environment

  • High Bay, Lab, Test Stands

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a physical examination for any required safety-related certifications.

  • Must be able to lift 40lbs

  • Must be able to work at heights.

Other Essential Functions:

  • Candidate must adhere to MSFC and OSHA safety requirements, including use of appropriate PPE when necessary and follow written technical procedures.

  • Must be dependable and willing to work hours outside the normal schedule.

  • Good communication (written and verbal) skills.

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and workmanship

  • Experience reading and understanding specification and detailed work instruction

  • Must be able to pass a security background check per Redstone Arsenal/MSFC requirements

  • Licenses: Valid State Driver’s License.
