Aerojet Rocketdyne is looking for qualified Senior Tool E ngineer for our new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in Huntsville A L.

Tool Engineers develop and design a variety of tools and equipment required to support the manufacturing, quality and test operations. These positions perform feasibility analysis of special tool plans; create tool concepts and drawings utilizing environmental health and safety procedures, tool standards manuals and sound engineering practices; initiate fabrication and assist with inspection and operational check out of special tools; and resolve tooling problems encountered during tool usage.

This current opening may be filled at this level as posted or at one level higher.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

50% - Activities to include tooling design, tooling procurement and fabrication, and conduct tooling functional checkout. Responsible for tooling design based on efficiency, ease and safety or operation, ease of maintenance and cost of fabrication. Interfaces with suppliers and manufacturing personnel to assure that tool design requirements and intent are met. Coordinate tooling functional checkout with manufacturing disciplines prior to releasing tooling to manufacturing operations.

30% - Coordinate with tool design and manufacturing engineering and manufacturing technicians to investigate and resolve tooling problems and tooling design updates to address product ability and affordability initiatives.

10% - Support the product development and production Integrated Product Teams with tooling design cost estimates for design and fabrication, schedules for fabrication, and overall status of assigned projects. Recommend changes to product design and manufacturing processes for simplification of tooling design and overall manufacturing processes.

10% - Prepare presentations and present technical information for internal and external customers. Responsible for preparing tooling design reports to support engineering analysis, trade studies, and tooling design reviews.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related major and five (5) years directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A strong mechanical aptitude and experience with CAD software tools expected(CREO and NX preferred), as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

A tooling engineer uses computer-aided (CAD) manufacturing to create and adjust tools or parts for vehicles, airplanes, heavy equipment, or any product that needs customized components. As a tooling engineer, your duties include drafting blueprints for designs crafting the necessary pieces. You also improve previous designs. You should have experience with metalworking and mechanics. Computer skills are just also important because tooling engineers build and troubleshoot designs with CAD software.

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
