Saint-Gobain Reliability & Maintenance Engineer in HUNTSVILLE, Alabama

This position is responsible for planning, managing and ensuring efficient maintenance support to the plant and production activities by directing efforts and activities relating to manufacturing & facilities management within a 24-hour manufacturing operation. This position provides experienced direct supervision of maintenance work (including maintenance team and outside contractors) in order to meet delivery, safety, service and cost objectives of the department. Additionally, provides engineering and consulting support to maintain and develop products or processes and manages technical information flow.

This position will focus on improvement objectives, including but not limited to such areas as maintenance, parts management, facilities, safety, and productivity improvement.- Manages assigned projects, engineering trials and including project scheduling, performance, implementation, and writing reports to meet objectives and deadlines.

Provides support for maintenance activities, including preventative and reactive maintenance to optimize production efficiency while minimizing maintenance costs. Prioritize and supervise the activities of all subordinate and facility contractor personnel. Prepares maintenance budget. Handles activities associated with a maintenance shutdown for facility.

  • Monitor and analyze KPI’s (maintenance cost, downtime, OEE, etc.) to identify, plan, and implement opportunities for improvement.

  • Optimize work order management system to support production and provide visibility to plant leadership.

  • Design, manage and sustain a parts inventory program for the plant. Assure effective and optimized cost for all associated parts, service and rental costs for the plant.

  • Assists subordinates in troubleshooting and problem solving and focused on development and training of the maintenance employees.

Responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining the infrastructure and equipment of buildings and facilities (power generators, water systems, cooling towers, air handling, compressors, etc.)

Provides leadership in assuring employee physical wellbeing and safety by the development, promotion, and enforcement of an uncompromising safety attitude in both supervision and production employees and good safety practices measured by a safety record that exceeds and leads the industry. Fosters a team environment, where employees are respected and recognized for their achievements. Trains, motivates, monitors, and evaluates performance of the department; counsels, documents and provides discipline, as necessary. Ensures that all policies and procedures are followed.

This incumbent will be responsible for overseeing manufacturing and technical projects and process improvements. Reviews system capabilities and provide technical support for upgrades and improvements to manufacturing and administrative systems and hardware - evaluate, report, and recommend improvements and changes to controls and computer systems.

  • Assist in evaluating and selecting automation hardware and software necessary to meet current and future manufacturing requirements.

  • Design/modify network infrastructure and implement use of IIoT devices to capture real-time data from the shop floor

  • Provide input to managing the controls and automation systems testing, quality control, data retrieval and training for all packaging and processing equipment.

  • Assist with assessing the effectiveness and maintainability of new automation systems and managing the automation change process for existing equipment.

  • Write/modify PLC code (Ladder Logic/Structured Text) for existing control systems.

  • Bachelor's Degree - Engineering Discipline required / Electrical Engineering preferred.

  • 5-7 Years Experience evaluating and troubleshooting manufacturing processes and machinery.- Previous furnace operations experience preferred.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing practices with working knowledge of lean manufacturing concepts and 5S.

  • Experience maintaining equipment such as kilns, high temperature furnaces, mills and crushing systems preferred.
