Newell Brands Associate Packaging Test Engineer in Huntersville, North Carolina

This position provides technical support for packaging testing, lab operations, and efficiency improvements. This position will be responsible for testing and warehouse management in support of new packaging development, productivity, and sustaining projects across all brands. The position requires the ability to work effectively with the Packaging Research and Development teams across Newell Brands, as well as other disciplines including Marketing, Industrial Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain. Limited travel may be required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops test request criteria and accuracy to drive successful testing in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Proposes enhancements to processes to improve effectiveness and efficiency of the test lab.

  • Assists in ensuring equipment effectiveness through preventative maintenance.

  • Provides troubleshooting and repairs to test equipment as needed.

  • Active leadership toward delivering SEAL and 6S goals.

  • Provides root cause analysis efforts when packaging does not meet test criteria.

  • Guides the team to create innovative solutions to performance challenges.

  • Provides guidance in statistical support for proper sample sizing in test plans.

  • Delivers test results with clear reporting on performance levels and confidence intervals.

  • Ensures test methods are repeatable and reproducible through measurement system analysis.

  • Develops improved test methods using continuous measurement methodologies.

  • Provide fixture design guidance to ensure automation is efficient and consumer relevant.

  • Mentors and advises test technicians.

  • Assists with training on testing, test processes, and development of training materials.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Packaging Science, or closely related field

  • High level of agility with experience in working across considerable number of projects in a dynamic cross functional environment

  • Ability to manage technical resources on projects.

  • Aptitude to maintain and troubleshoot test lab operations and equipment.

  • Certification or familiarity with ISTA testing procedures.

  • Working knowledge of DFMEA, DVP&R, Windchill System, and engineering drawings.

  • Strong critical thinking skills including identifying problems, potential problems, and developing solutions.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, writing, planning, and presentation skills

  • Must be able to repeatedly lift 25 lbs., and up to 40lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Packaging development and/or testing experience in consumer-packaged goods.

  • Demonstrated or experience with SEAL, OSHA, Safety and 6S.

  • Ability to apply Statistical Analysis

  • Familiarity with the use of data acquisition and data logging software/equipment

  • Experience operating a forklift and scissor lift.
