Description

The department of Liberal Arts at the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) invites applications for a one-year fixed term position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor of Literature beginning Fall 2024. The successful candidate will teach courses in Creative Writing and in American Literature at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and will have the opportunity to contribute to course offerings at the Texas Department of Corrections facility at Rosharon. The areas of specialization within Creative Writing and American Literature are open; the candidate will be expected to teach in a variety of genres, such as fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction.

Duties:

  • Teach four classes per semester (Fall and Spring)

  • Participate on college, program and departmental committees and other University service

  • Perform related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

  1. Terminal degree in Literature, or related field.Qualified applicants at the ABD level of their PhD program may be considered, provided a terminal degree is anticipated by the hire date

  2. Knowledge in current pedagogical techniques for successful student learning in Literature and Creative Writing

  3. Proficiency in online learning management system, Canvas

  4. Interpersonal skills to resolve student complaints and conflicts
