Occidental is looking for two experienced and motivated individuals to fill the positions of Technology Development Engineer in Houston, Texas. The position will support Low Carbon Ventures whose mission is to extend Occidental’s distinct competitive advantage in carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) and to explore other low carbon opportunities.
The Technology Development Engineer will be responsible for successful identification, prioritization, and fundamental development of a wide variety of CCUS technology concepts and projects that are a focus of Low Carbon Ventures and its partners, which includes improving 1PointFive’s direct air capture technology and TerraLithium’s direct lithium extraction sorbent, under the general direction of the Vice President of Technology & Application – Low Carbon Ventures.
Roles and Responsibilities:
· Critically evaluate and prioritize a wide variety of technology concepts that may fit into the Low Carbon Ventures short and long-term strategies.
· Innovate on CCUS technologies from an experimental and theoretical perspective.
· Network in the scientific community to identify novel yet practical CCUS concepts, technologies, or products.
· Support Low Carbon Ventures by directly innovating with our equity investments and JV partners to accelerate their development to commerciality.
· Identify capabilities and expertise to enhance and expand the LCV technology laboratories.
Qualifications
Qualifications
Education:
· Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or associated field.
· Ability to work in the United States a must.
Experience:
· Candidates should have at 5 years of laboratory, pilot, technology development, or related experience.
· Experience in new technology development, applying data to contemplate new theories and approaches, and using innovation to drive to commercial success.
· Demonstrated balance between experimental and theoretical expertise.
Skills & Competencies:
· Able to plan and execute experimental tests on the bench scale or to develop theoretical models.
· Able to communicate effectively and clearly to drive action and/or result.
· Demonstrated experience in taking abstract concepts and quickly discerning their technical and economic viability.
· Prepares logical, technically supported memos, recommendations and reports.
· Works with fellow Low Carbon Ventures team members to provide technical solutions.
· Understands Low Carbon Ventures business objectives and incorporates the same into problem solving process.
· Advanced understanding of economic principles and methods as related to early-stage research.
· Possesses a collaborative nature and actively participates in teams; actively seeks continuous improvement by identifying and implementing best practices and procedures.
