MD Anderson Cancer Center Sr. Research Assistant - Epigenetics and Molecular Carcinogenesis in Houston, Texas

This position will be located at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Texas Medical Center campus, in Houston, Texas.


The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.


The primary purpose of the Senior Research Assistant position is to provide supervision, special training to technical personnel, and/or highly technical work in the Flow Cytometry and Cellular Imaging Core (FCCIC) in the Department of Epigenetics and Molecular Carcinogenesis.


Research Support

Perform research or experimental tasks to supply information as part of a research project or laboratory. Support research providing comprehensive services as part of a core facility. Responsible for planning and executing details of experiments including scheduling, preparation of required reagents, coordinating supplies and operating/supervising required equipment. Timely report experimental results and data. Assemble, operate, troubleshoot and maintain functionality of certain core equipment, including monthly QC procedures and preventative maintenance records.

Expertise and Specialization

Apply background/experience in science, using independent evaluation, judgment and analysis. Perform research or experimental tasks in a limited field (niche) or specialty area. Master difficult, advanced, skills or technology in areas related to core services. Operate technically advanced instrumentation. Develop and revise protocols, procedures, and techniques, including standard operating procedures. Assist in researching/implementing new technology to expand the repertoire of core services. Participate in troubleshooting and resolve problems.

Laboratory Organization Supervise independent users of core equipment. Interact with research staff and educational appointees to assist with planning experiments including sample preparation and appropriate controls. Assess availability of supplies and advise/recommend purchasing as needed. Contribute to the overall function of the core including cross-training on certain instrumentation and applications as needed. Establish new service procedures. Maintain records of procedures and services provided. May have delegated signing authority on routine purchases and may assist with iLabs billing for core services.

Education: Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

Experience: Three years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. With preferred degree, one year of required experience.
