MD Anderson Cancer Center Simulation Educator in Houston, Texas

The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas , the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.

Designs and delivers simulation based curriculum, instruction, and course facilitation utilizing simulation theory. Consults to develop and perform complex learning theory based needs assessments for educational interventions and course development throughout the institution. Leads the development and delivery of clinical simulation experiences in the simulation center. Develops and implements reliable and valid educational assessment tools. Determines student achievement at a variety of assessment levels. Analyzes qualitative and quantitative data.

Key Functions

  1. Develops instructional plans and contributes to the planning for the simulation center.

  2. Leads the development of Simulation Center curriculum.

  3. Develops clinical scenarios, and imparts faculty and educators with the preparation for and implementation of various levels of fidelity clinical scenarios.

  4. Conducts needs assessments to identify and address gaps and opportunities.

  5. Designs and implements new simulation center courses using sound simulation theory.

  6. Consults with clients to design, pilot, and implement scenario and skills based simulation courses to include scheduling, enrollment, and course evaluation.

  7. Works with clients, Simulation Center staff, content experts and reviewers, and target audience representatives to develop and evaluate courses to continually update and improve courses.

  8. Leads in the evaluation and/or debriefing of learner performance before, during, and after simulated clinical experiences.

  9. Independently, or as part of a team, assist faculty, educators, and learners in the utilization of simulation equipment, provide an appropriate orientation to simulator features and the simulation learning environment.

  10. Participate in the development and implementation of simulation training for faculty, educators, support staff, and learners in the technical aspects of simulation.

  11. Apply knowledge of instructional design in the support of the simulation center faculty, educators, and learners.

  12. Provide training for faculty and educators in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of scenarios, simulation tools, and other educational initiatives to meet and measure learner outcomes.

  13. Maintain proficiency in existing and emerging technologies and clinical applications, including basic theory, design, and implementation.

  14. Assist faculty and educators with the development and programming of scenarios to meet learner objectives.

  15. Other duties as assigned.

Education

Required: One of the following: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing; Master's Degree as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant; Pharm.D. degree from an accredited college of pharmacy; Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field; or, doctoral degree in a clinical health sciences profession.

Experience

Required: Five years of clinical experience to include two years teaching experience

Preferred: Three to five years of clinical experience in a surgical care, emergency, or urgent care setting to include experience with invasive procedures and the use of ultrasound for invasive procedures and one year creating and delivering simulation-based learning and instruction in a large academic healthcare environment.

Licensure/Certification

Required: One of the following: * Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) to function as a Registered Nurse, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.; * Texas State Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist license; or * Registered Respiratory Therapist by NBRC and Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by Texas Medical Board (TMB) and; Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
