Burns & McDonnell Senior Electrical Engineer (Houston) in Houston, Texas

Description

Perform electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion. Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects including, but not limited to: power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, commercial, governmental and military facilities. Design electrical components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers. Apply strong knowledge of commonly used electrical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry. Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers. Update drawings to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related softwares. Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of power, process, pipeline, industrial, commercial, governmental and military facilities. Perform field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients. Multiple positions available. Telecommuting is allowed up to 30 days per year. Primarily Domestic travel up to 25% of the time is required for internal meetings, client & site visits.

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree, in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology*, or a directly related field from an ABET accredited program plus seven (7) years of electrical engineering experience. Alternatively, the employer will also accept a Master’s degree, in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology*, or a directly related field from an ABET accredited program plus six (6) years of electrical engineering experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus seven (7) years of described experience.

*A Degree in any Engineering Technology field must be accompanied by the successful completion of the Fundamental of Engineering (FE) Exam.

Must have five (5) years of experience in each of the following:

  • Standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • SKM Power Tools or ETAP, as well as experience with AcSELerator or Enervista.

  • Completing electrical designs including one-line drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams and routing plans.

  • Conceptual planning, front end engineering designs (FEED), feasibility studies and estimating, and construction support.

  • Performing engineering calculations including: voltage drop for cable sizing or electrical equipment protection sizing.

  • Completing electrical equipment specifications and evaluating vendor production drawings for technical acceptance for equipment including: Transformers or Switchgears/Motor Control Centers.

  • Factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing during project site visits.

  • Completing electrical systems studies including: load flow, short circuit, coordination, motor starting and arc flash analysis.

  • Creating and reviewing protective device settings and developing relay setting files using relay manufacturer software, including developing logic diagrams and protection narratives.

  • Electrical area classification studies.
