Your Opportunity

We are seeking a creative and talented engineer to lead and support our client with the development of Quantitative Risk Analysis tools. These tools range from simple data mappers to standalone analytical tools to perform various types of risk analyses (e.g., pipe rupture, fire/explosion, equipment reliability, etc.), to large scale calculation engines to perform system-wide risk and reliability analysis.

You will be exposed to all aspects of development including solution architecting, front-end development, back-end development, project management, and deployment. This is a rare opportunity to enhance your skills in data modeling and programming for scientific and technically complex use cases. Moreover, you will get to directly support the implementation of your work product for critical business decisions!

This position will be working with our Energy business operating unit and client in the Houston, TX area.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with risk specialists and other subject matter experts to understand business requirement and translate them to technical requirements.

  • Design and document solution architecture aimed at high availability and reliability, high performance (speed, efficiency), and to be scalable, modular, and secure.

  • Apply industry best practices for documentation, design, verification, and validation of development projects.

  • Develop scalable and modular front end and back-end applications.

  • Develop data models, algorithms, data structures, APIs, etc.

  • Design UX/UI, including wireframes, through a collaborative effort with end-users.

  • Maintain and continuously improve custom Excel functions and scripts.

  • Manage deployment of software tools, continuous integration, and resource monitoring.

  • Manage continuous integration and continuous deployment with containerized applications.

  • Troubleshoot and correct issues/bugs across the entire technology stack for a given application deployment, with an aim to minimize operational disruption.

  • Write technical documentation as required (UML, BPMN, etc.).

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Extensive experience with back end development (Python, SQL, Flask or Django API, Node.JS)

  • Extensive experience with front end web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and one or more frameworks React, Vue, Angular), Python GUI development (PyQt, Tkinter, wxPython, and/or PySide), and Command Line Interfaces

  • Experience with version control tools such as Git and GitHub

  • Demonstrated ability to write high-quality, production-ready code (readable, well-tested, well-documented, with well-designed APIs)

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

  • Willingness to work extended hours as needed to meet project deadlines.

  • Must have a good driving record and valid Driver's License

  • Prior to employment with Stantec, this position will require the successful passing of a drug & alcohol screen

Preferred:

  • Experience with containerized application deployments using Docker and Kubernetes

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud ecosystem

  • Knowledge of data science and machine learning methods and models (clustering, classification algorithms, neural networks, etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability to work with large data sets using Python and SQL for data mining and machine learning.

  • Knowledge of quantitative risk analysis and related disciplines (e.g., reliability, asset integrity)

  • Experience in oil and gas pipeline operating company

Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or another technical field, Master’s Degree preferred

5 years of directly relevant work experience
