We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Reservoir Engineer within the Well Analysis and Design Team in our US Onshore Resources & Carbon Management (ORCM), Midland Basin Business Unit based in Houston, TX.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide reservoir engineering development recommendations and support for Midland Basin assets. Support includes integration of subsurface data with production data, understanding risks and opportunities in each area of responsibility, and estimating well performance at a given development scenario – understanding and optimizing for key productivity drivers is critical.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining type well profiles for all potential benches for development.  Includes assessing risk factors and ranges of outcomes for well performance at different spacing recommendations.
  • Optimize well spacing/stacking/landing patterns alongside completions engineers and geoscientists.
  • Support field development plans, as well as business plan and reserves cycles as needed.
  • Prepare forecasts for PDP locations, undeveloped location bookings, and associated documentation for annual reserves booking process.
  • Prepare and present technical evaluations to joint venture partner.  Collaborate with partner to achieve technical alignment on development plans.
  • Responsible for the surveillance of wedge well performance in areas of responsibility. Provide periodic updates of actual well performance as compared to expectations, and the main causes of any deviations, to key stakeholders.
  • Integrator and coordinator of program lookbacks to evaluate lessons learned and improvements for future programs. Such responsibility includes evaluating and communicating well performance results and assessment of science diagnostics.
  • Provide reservoir engineering support for base producing wells, as well as any recompletion or workover candidates.
  • Create and maintain RTA models for all wedge wells in areas of responsibility. Be able to assess reservoir diagnostics based on well performance.
  • Be up to speed on offset competitor activity around area of responsibility.
  • Provide reservoir engineering support in any engineering study integration within the business unit and support teams.
  • Help support technical excellence of the operating staff and field operating personnel, and work closely with other multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in an Engineering discipline.

 

Experience and Skills:

  • 7 years of experience in Reservoir Engineering with experience in the Permian Basin, preferably in the Midland Basin, evaluating unconventional reservoirs.
  • Prior experience working in an international joint venture developing unconventional resources in the Permian Basin and collaborating with the partner’s technical team.
  • Experience with optimizing infill development and creating plans for full sectional development of recently-appraised benches.
  • Spotfire knowledge and the ability to manage big datasets are required. Must be effective at creating impactful data visualizations and leveraging them to affect business decisions. Programming skills (particularly Python) and understanding of data analytics and machine learning are a plus.
  • Experience with customized DSU design and well placement, accounting for local constraints and maximizing recovery, including creating tools to generate automated displays of relevant design considerations.
  • Must have prior operator experience creating type well profiles and driving well spacing decisions in collaboration with geoscientists and completion engineers.
  • Prior experience proposing and evaluating extended laterals (>3 mi.) in the Midland Basin.
  • Demonstrated experience with designing and analyzing CPG interference tests.
  • Experience with evaluating unconventional EOR pilots is a plus.
  • Must have outstanding presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Critical thinking and challenging the status quo.
  • Multi-tasking and problem solving with an ability to analyze and recommend solutions on projects with a high degree of uncertainty.
  • Ability to interact effectively with team members, other departments, and joint venture partners.
  • Exhibit the qualities of a good team player such as conveying a positive attitude within/outside the organization, contributing ideas, and collaborating with team members to find new ways of working efficiently to extract the maximum value from assigned assets.
  • Must be an active and effective user of Spotfire and Harmony (RTA, including multi-well modeling and integration with Spotfire), as well as economic evaluation software such as ARIES, PEEP, or Mosaic.
  • Must know reserves reporting processes and PRMS and SEC Reserves definitions and have prior experience working with third-party reserves consultants on unconventional bookings.
