MD Anderson Cancer Center Research Assistant II - Leukemia in Houston, Texas

KEY FUNCTIONS

Mouse work

  • Manage rodent breeding colonies including mating breeders, checking pregnancy, recording litters, monitoring pups development, identifying pups for genotyping, and weaning.

  • Observe health conditions and clinical signs in animals.

  • Dose and inject animal via PO/IV/IP/IM/SC route.

  • Collect tissues for hematology and genotyping assays.

  • Support in vivo experiments per project protocols.

  • Report animal status and issues twice a week.

  • Monitors inventories of consumable common supplies in animal lab to ensure continuity procedures.

  • Perform tasks associated with lab functions including calibrating, maintaining, troubleshooting.

  • Keep open communication with supervisor, project PIs and other personnel between animal lab and bio-Lab within the team to update status and issues.

  • Create and manage animal lab research folders, files, and documents.

  • Enter data into spreadsheets or database, make animal inventories, and generate reports.

  • Recommends replacement or purchase of new equipment.

Molecular and Cellular Techniques

  • Maintain and monitor cell cultures.

  • Conduct molecular experiments, including western blots and PCR.

  • Document experiments clearly and report to the Principal Investigator.

  • Collaborate for protocol optimization and troubleshooting.

  • Ensure strict adherence to lab safety guidelines.

Laboratory Equipment and Maintenance

  • Performs routine maintenance of ultra-low freezers, liquid nitrogen, C02 and water levels. Should be able to maintain equipment such as high-speed centrifuges, pH meters and microfuges.

  • Manually operates and maintains the lab equipment. Visually reads equipment operation manuals and procedure manual whenever necessary. Must be able to lift and carry items up to 20-25 pounds and carry or move from one area of the lab to another by using a roller cart. Must be able to comply with all institutional safety policies including Universal Precautions and OSHA standards when handling toxic, hazardous, flammable, radioactive or potentially infectious or carcinogenic materials. This may require wearing common protective garments or equipment such as gloves, eye protection, face mask, gown or lab coat, etc. Additionally some procedures may require the use of a fume hood or biological safety cabinet.

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.

Preferred: Master's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.

EXPERIENCE

Required: One year experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.
