Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind the cloud. We are responsible for delivering over 200 Microsoft web portals, Live and Online Services around the world including infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide. Within CO+I, the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) team is responsible for strategic development and execution of engineering, supply chain, construction, commissioning, and fit out that can meet the growth of the Microsoft Cloud Datacenters and our customers. We support a portfolio of complex, multi-disciplinary, multi-billion, multi-year datacenter builds and lease projects and operations of those assets. We are looking to fill the critical role of Modularization Portfolio Sr. Director who can oversee, manage, and drive safe delivery of modularized datacenter builds and lease in Americas.

The person in this role is responsible for leading the fully integrated modularized project delivery from development of engineering and detail design through supply chain, construction commissioning, and fit out and turn over to the operations ensuring full alignment with the overall EPC strategic initiatives and functional guidelines as well as company's overall business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the development and execution of various modularization datacenter builds aligned with safety, quality, cost, and schedule goals.

  • Deploy disciplined project execution and apply consistency and predictability in delivering modularized project.

  • Responsible for development of overall execution plan in partnership with global EPC functional leaders, modularization Subject Matter Experts (SME), and 3rd party EPC firms to support a seamless execution plan per the approved business objectives.

  • Manage EPC's firm relationships aligned with the agreed execution plan including safety, quality, schedule, and cost requirements.

  • Work in partnership with regional permitting, power, and network team to streamline interdependencies on the build.

  • Monitor and analyze project performance and implement improvements.

  • Maintain, manage, and drive portfolio key performance results.

  • Collaborate cross functionally and fully integrate within EPC with engineering, procurement, contract, project controls, and construction organization to safely deliver capacity to our customers with optimized total time to market and total cost of ownership.

  • Ability to work in a functional matrix organization. Microsoft Reports will have functional reporting and project reporting. Including Design manager, construction manager, fit out manager, commissioning manager, supply chain manager, and project controls/planning/cost.

Execution

  • Accountable for the successful execution and overall management of the modularization projects.

  • Full understanding of project execution including conceptual engineering, detail engineering, supply chain, construction, and commissioning

  • Planning and execution background

  • Construction / field experience with great understanding of the project risk management and commercial management.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Oversees and develops business groups for optimal cross-functional stakeholder support and business assurance, and broadly fosters internal and external partnerships to align and negotiate strategic decisions and produce deliverables.

  • Drives consensus in the goals and success criteria with stakeholders both internal and external to Microsoft, shares thought leadership and socializes best practices related to negotiation and collaboration to enable teams to execute negotiations with consistent success.

This role will be located in one of our hub locations - Redmond, WA or Houston, TX. Relocation support will not be provided, and successful candidates must relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location. This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 50%

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, construction, data analysis, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 8+ years’ professional experience with large complex Capital Project execution including large scale modularization ($500M+ total capital cost).

  • 8+ years of experience with knowledge of datacenter industry and experience managing a variety of project delivery methods - ability to lead a project team in defining risk and developing the appropriate contracting and compensation approach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experienced in full project cycle and executed large projects.

  • 10+ years of people management experience.

Technical Program Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.
