Powell Industries, Inc. Lead Quality Analyst in Houston, Texas

The primary responsibilities are to serve as the technical lead for the Quality Control Department, supporting the Inspection teams as well as other department stakeholders throughout the project life cycle stages from opportunity development in the sales stage through post shipment and warranty support. Maintain and improve quality control documentation and develop project specific documentation when needed. Develop and execute training plans for Inspectors. Evaluate inspection processes and activities to ensure they drive safety and quality into our products as well as efficiency into the manufacturing and inspection processes. Lead and/or support special projects and support the Quality Management System.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical resource for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support the Sales and Applications Engineering team with project pursuits by reviewing specifications and developing quality documentation required during the bid process.

  • Develop and implement product and project standard and custom inspection plans.

  • Identify and Implement Training and Cross Training Requirements for the Department.

  • Maintain and improve the Department work instructions, inspection procedures and documentation.

  • Develop Process Maps and Workflows to support Department work instructions and procedures.

  • Develop Test and Acceptance Criteria for Department work instructions and procedures.

  • Monitor and analyze quality performance and implement controls and process improvement projects

  • Facilitate and support the development and modification of Job Hazard Analysis documents.

  • Participate on New and Current Supplier Evaluation.

  • Develop Inspection plans and processes for buyout and customer furnished equipment.

  • Investigate major discrepant supplier items and determine the next course of action.

  • Notify and Communicate with Purchasing, Production and Engineering on Discrepant Supplier Items

  • Trouble Shoot and Root Cause Analysis of manufacturing discrepancies. Lead or support implementation of corrective actions with internal stakeholders.

  • Support Post Sales Service Team to resolve warranty issues, developing corrective actions as needed.

  • Identify Equipment Needs for the Quality Control Department.

  • Specify and create Requisitions for Materials, Test Equipment, Calibration and Test Services

  • Support the Quality Manager in develop of departments Project Plans and Individual Goals for Inspectors.

  • Maintain and Generate Quality Graphs and Reports.

  • Support the Quality Management System.

  • Support and Facilitate Quality Internal Audits.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Engineering or relevant experience equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical knowledge of codes, standards, inspection requirements of Power Control Rooms, Switchgear, and Motor Control Centers.

  • Experience inspecting Power Control Rooms, Switchgear, and Motor Control Centers.

  • Experience in the development of inspection procedures and acceptance criteria.

Skills, Abilities & Other Requirements

  • Available to Answer Technical Questions from Customers, Suppliers, Management, Engineers, Inspectors, Operators and Assemblers

  • Good communication skills across a wide range of different stakeholder groups.

  • Ability to resolve conflict and develop consensus on paths forward.

  • Ability to Interact on a Regular Basis with Management and Shop Personnel

  • Ability to Analyze Problems, Determine Root Cause and Take Effective Corrective Action

  • Implement the Necessary Quality and Statistical Tools that Provide Process Monitoring and Improvement

  • Aptitude for training, coaching, and mentoring Quality Control personnel as well as other internal stakeholders.

Working & Environmental Conditions

  • The employee typically performs duties in a normal office environment. There will be some work in a shop environment and exposure to the elements of our shop.

  • Additionally, there may be some work performed in the field with exposure to construction sites or active customer facilities.
