Our greatest asset has been, and will continue to be, our people.  We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Production Geologist in our US Onshore Resources & Carbon Management (ORCM),Texas Delaware Basin Business Unit based in Houston, Texas.

The position’s primary responsibilities include:

·        Verify well plans with Drilling and the Subsurface Characterization Team.

·        Scheduling and logistics of data collection and vendor invoicing.

·        Generate Geoprogs, Target Zone Landing and Shallow Hazards documentation for Drilling and Operations Geology departments.

·        Work closely with Surface planning, Geophysics, and Drilling to identify subsurface hazards throughout the drilling process.

·        Optimize Subsurface understanding using internal and external data from the surface down to the target interval by combining geologic hazards with drilling hazards.

·        Work in conjunction with Regulatory and Oxy’s Water Strategy Team on new SWD permit application and supply technical justifications for permit approval.

·        Outside operated projects in collaboration with the Inventory Growth Team. 

·        Lookbacks and optimization of well landings, target zone strategy and completions stage optimization.

Additional roles and responsibilities include:

·    Understand all significant aspects of the asset’s subsurface, working closely with the Subsurface Characterization group (SSC)

·    Asset support for base production

oLast well on lease (LWOL) evaluation

oRecompletion potential in uneconomic wells

oRoute Reviews/Well Reviews – Work with PE/RE group to provide geologic/subsurface support for legacy vertical wells as well as horizontal well lookbacks

oHeel frac analysis for existing horizontal wells. 

·    Drilling & Completion – Well preparation and planning execution:  Work with Land, SSC, Drilling, Regulatory, and Completions to create:

oGeoprogs for new drills – Permits, plats, landing points, shallow hazards, etc.

oWith SSC geologist, Pre-drill well path analysis from surface to target

oPost drill/Pre-Frac analysis:  Use seismic and MWD data to highlight any concerns on the completion side before the frac crew arrives.  Work closely with Completions and the Well Analysis and Design (WAD) teams to keep wells online while offset completions are in progress.

·    Frac hit analysis – Oxy and offset competitor analysis

oBe aware and monitor offset completions to understand and predict potential frac hits on OXY wells

oWith increased activity this is a large part of our role in the organization.

·    Outside Operated (OBO) / Inventory Growth support (IGT)

oSupport acreage evaluation for trades and OBO projects

oProvide geologic support to the Reservoir Engineer for economic/type curve evaluations

oWork with petrophysicists to understand uncertainty in log analysis in areas away from Oxy core developments

oPotentially create a full geologic evaluation of non-core areas for trade/divestiture/development

 

Qualifications

Required knowledge, experience, skills, and competencies:

Education and Experience:

·        Bachelor’s Geoscience with minimum of 10 years’ experience OR Master’s and/or PhD with a minimum of 3 years’ experience

Professional/Technical Knowledge:

·        Fundamental knowledge of geologic mapping workflows

·        Fundamental knowledge of drilling and completions

Skills & Competencies:

·        Collaboration between disciplines

·        Team oriented

·        Business judgment in decision making process

Preferred knowledge, experience, skills and competencies:

·        Fundamental knowledge of deep-water depositional systems. 

·        Experience in unconventional reservoirs.
