Wastequip Field Service Mechanic 1 in Houston, Texas

Description

Wastequip WRX Compactor Services division has an immediate opportunity for a Field Service Mechanic to support our Houston, TX service operation. Wastequip WRX provides compactor repair services, maintenance, installation, and compactor rebuilding. The ideal candidate will travel to customers' sites for service/warranty repair, installations, and preventative maintenance. Work may also be performed onsite at our facility.

Starting pay: $29.00 to $31.00 - Will pay more with Trash Compactor experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications.

  • Diagnosing issues with and programming PLC controls.

  • Informing customers and dispatch of service issues with compactors.

  • Familiarity with compactor hydraulic schematics and pressure evaluation.

  • Maintains compactor functional condition by listening to operator complaints, conducting inspections, repairing failures, repairing mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions, replacing parts and components, and repairing body damage.

  • Maintains compactor records by recording service and repairs.

  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.

  • Increase job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.

  • Ability to lift 50lbs plus, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb ladders.

  • Above all, must work closely with co-workers or other team members.

  • Working safely, with integrity, in a team context.

  • Ability to teach, train, coach, and oversee other service technicians as they are onboarded to the team.

Qualifications

The requirements listed below represent the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

  • 5 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic.

  • Ability to read and comprehend verbal and written instructions.

  • Able to troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic components.

  • Welding experience required.

  • Proficiency in welding and fabricating

  • General mechanical abilities with Diesel Trucks or Heavy Construction Equipment.

  • Ability to work and communicate professionally and clearly with customers and team members.

  • Commercial trash compactor and baler experience is preferred.

  • Ability to ride in a vehicle for long periods.

  • Some after-hours, nights, and weekend work will be required.
