Jacobs Construction Inspector - Transportation in Houston, Texas

Our team is experiencing exciting growth within our established Construction Management practice, and we are seeking a new Construction Inspector to join our team. You'll inspect construction methods and workmanship to ensure that contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. Utilizing your expertise you will inspect traffic control setup and devices to ensure compliance with approved traffic control plans. You’ll be expected to perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensures contractors build roadways, bridges, and related highway structures and/or airport improvements in accordance with plans and specifications.

  • Moves equipment, tools, materials, and products.

  • Monitors project phasing and traffic control plans or airport closure plans and ensures compliance with approved safety standards inspects barricades as required moves traffic control devices and barricades.

  • Observes and inspects ongoing construction work.

  • Attends pre-construction meetings and answers questions from contractors and other attendees.

  • Calculates payments due contractors for work completed.

  • Assists in engineering -related data collection, inspections, assessments, analysis, and review activities for plan development by others.

  • Resolves differences in interpretation of plans and specifications.

  • Documents work progress and issues arising throughout scope of project.

  • Ensures adequate levels of equipment and materials are assigned to projects; ensures material tests are performed and materials meet required standards

  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

  • 5+ years in construction inspection experience

  • Basic roadway design

  • ACI and TxAPA 1B certifications preferred

  • Prior Knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices

  • Prior experience Reading and interpreting applicable plans, schematics, blueprints, and maps

  • Able to performing calculations using algebra, trigonometry, and geometry

  • Prior knowledge of computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems
