We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Completions Engineer in our US Onshore Resources & Carbon Management (ORCM), Midland Basin Business Unit on the Well Analysis and Design team based in Houston, TX.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide completions engineering development recommendations and support for Midland Basin assets. Support includes using fracture modeling software to characterize wellbore SRVs, employing machine learning to optimize completions designs, creating pump schedules for designs, and identifying and implementing value-enhancing completions technologies to reduce costs and improve well performance.
  • Responsible for creating technical completions designs for development and appraisal wells.
  • Partner closely with reservoir engineers, geoscientists, and execution teams to develop completion designs to optimize on value.
  • Lead initiatives to identify and implement cost-saving opportunities via well design improvements, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Optimize well spacing/stacking/landing/sequencing patterns alongside reservoir engineers and geoscientists.
  • Partner with data science SMEs to utilize data analytics and machine learning to extract actionable insights from large datasets, including subsurface data, production data, and completions data. Identify optimization opportunities to reduce costs and enhance value.
  • Support field development plans, as well as business plan as needed.
  • Prepare and present technical evaluations to joint venture partner.  Collaborate with partner on development plans.
  • Mentor engineers on secondment assignments as part of a joint venture.
  • Maintain close contact with operational teams in areas of responsibility. Provide design guidance as needed during execution.
  • Integrator and coordinator of program lookbacks to evaluate lessons learned and improvements for future programs. Such responsibility includes evaluating science diagnostics.
  • Be up to speed on offset competitor activity and trends.
  • Provide fracture modeling support and engineering study integration within the business unit and support teams, including for reservoir simulation models.
  • Help support technical excellence of the operating staff and field operating personnel and work closely with other multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in an Engineering discipline.

 

Experience:

7 years of related experience Completions Engineering in unconventional reservoirs in the Permian Basin, preferably in the Midland Basin.

 

Skills & Competencies:

  • Must be able to effectively integrate science diagnostics to calibrate stimulation modeling and have a strong grasp of physics governing model behavior.
  • Experience with optimizing infill development and creating plans for full sectional development of recently-appraised benches.
  • Spotfire knowledge and the ability to manage big datasets are required. Must be effective at creating impactful data visualizations and leveraging them to affect business decisions. Programming skills (particularly Python) and understanding of data analytics and machine learning are a plus.
  • Must have outstanding presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Critical thinking and challenging the status quo.
  • Multi-tasking and problem solving with an ability to analyze and recommend solutions on projects with a high degree of uncertainty.
  • Ability to interact effectively with team members, other departments, and joint venture partners.
  • Prior experience working in a joint venture and collaborating with partner’s technical team is a plus.
  • Experience with unconventional EOR is a plus.
  • Exhibit the qualities of a good team player such as conveying a positive attitude within/outside the organization, contributing ideas, and collaborating with team members to find new ways of working efficiently to extract the maximum value from assigned assets.
  • Must be an active and effective user of Gohfer or similar stimulation design software, and Spotfire.
