Bloom Academy Campus Security Officer in Houston, Texas

Bloom Academy Charter School exists to provide a high quality, rigorous, and joyful educational experience to students in grades kindergarten to fifth grade. We are a new and independent school seeking to add deeply mission aligned, smart, hardworking, and emotionally intelligent people to our founding staff. We opened August 2019 with a cohort of kindergarten and first graders, and will educate scholars in grades K-5 the 24-25 school year.

The Campus Security Officer will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Access control for the school

  • Monitor arrival and dismissal of students

  • Set up cones or other objects for student arrival and dismissal

  • Deter and detect intruders

  • Monitor alarms and surveillance cameras

  • Actively promote a safe work environment and accident prevention

  • Provide excellent customer service

  • Address questions from parents, students, and other individuals

  • Answer and direct phone calls

  • Participate in evacuation, lockdown, shelter-in, and other emergency procedures.

  • Check email regularly and respond in a timely fashion

  • Enforce company rules, regulations, and policies

  • Inspect, maintain, or operate emergency equipment (Fire Extinguisher, AED, building alarm, etc.)

  • Patrol district property to protect all students, staff, and visitors from physical harm and prevent property loss due to theft or vandalism

  • Report irregularities and facility issues

  • Document unusual occurrences and collect witness statements

  • Contact Police, Fire Department, or Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for emergencies

  • Other tasks as directed by the Director of Scholar Services or Head of School.

Schedule

The school security officer must be present and engaged during operational hours. Security officers are expected to work a tour of duty that may start as early as 6:00 am and may end as late as 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Security officers may be required to work occasional evenings on weeknights and weekends, including parent events.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma

  • Licensed State of Texas Security Officer

  • Prior experience in Incident Management at a local, state, federal or military level

  • Meet minimal requirement for TCOLE Certification Renewal annually.

  • Deep alignment with the school's mission and core values.

  • A staunch belief that all students regardless of race or socio-economic status can achieve at high levels and be positive contributors to their communities.

  • A successful background check in compliance with state law.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with all school stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.

Preferred Key Competencies, Mindsets and Abilities

  • Commissioned security officer who has completed the Department of Public Safety Level II or III training course

  • CRASE Instructor Certification

  • ALICE Instructor Certification

  • FEMA Joint Information Center Course

  • Currently hold or obtain within 90 days a NIMS Certification

  • Knowledge of “I Love You Guys” Standard Response Protocol/SRP

  • Knowledge of Crisis and Risk Management

  • A growth mindset and high emotional intelligence.

  • A social justice-oriented philosophy as it relates to the achievement gap and educational advancement of disenfranchised communities.

  • Prior experience working with students, preferably as a school security guard or in a closely related role

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

This position is SAFE Grant funded for the 24-25 SY.
