DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions is Houston's municipal animal shelter and adoption center. BARC is looking for three applicants that possess:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.

  • Capable of handling complaints and unpleasant situations.

  • Possess a strong work ethic and team player mentality.

  • High social skills required.

  • Action oriented mentality.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing and responding to all Volunteer inquiries and issues (via SM, email, phone, in-person) concerning specific pets and concerns, overall policies, etc.

  • Hold courses to educate the volunteers on all current BARC information

  • Monitor volunteer profiles via shelter software and volunteer software

  • Update BARC volunteer website page & Volunteer handbook/manual

  • Manages large scale donation opportunities as needed

  • Responsible for implementing and upholding Volunteer guidelines and policies along with addressing any disciplinary action that needs to be taken

  • Works along side volunteers and fosters a strong sense of community

  • Performs other special duties and projects as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is physically comfortable most of the time with occasional periods of standing, stooping, bending and/or light lifting of materials up to 10 pounds, reaching over-head at times, swift walking and work in indoor/outdoor weather conditions. Minor discomforts of some animal odors.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Requires a high school diploma or a GED.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Three years of administrative or customer service-related experience is required.

PREFERENCES

Preferences shall be given to candidates that possess leadership experience; working with the public; working with animals; and two years of group leadership experience.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
