Our greatest asset has been, and will continue to be, our people.  We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Automation Engineer in our US Onshore Resources & Carbon Management (ORCM), Production Operations Business Unit based in Houston, Texas. A company vehicle will be provided for work-related commute and travel. 

The Automation Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and execution of automation engineering activities in Oil and Gas facilities’ projects. This role will also be accountable for the successful development and execution of automation projects to support the efficient production of oil and gas, following company and industry standards.

Primary Responsibilities:

•       Participate in the development & implementation of automation strategies for upgrade, expansion, continuous improvement, life cycle, and preventive maintenance of OXY automation infrastructure

•       Generate all automation engineering project documentation and delivery to Facilities project manager on time and ensure construction is built as designed.

•       Maintain project schedule, implementation, compliance to design and commissioning. 

•       Generate project tracking and reporting as defined by project team. 

•       Facilitate in the Design of PLC programs and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) for wells and facilities within guidelines of OXY automation standards 

•       Understand Oil and Gas facilities process and design control systems in accordance with OXY and Industry standards.

•       Communicate with external and internal stakeholders as needed.

•       Enforce change control processes (MOCs) while working on Maintenance Capital Projects (M&C) and OPEX projects and monitor compliance and close outs via regular auditing activities. 

•       Ensure all data is accurate and complete for all visual representation of automation projects 

•       Assist field personnel in identifying and resolving Process Control, Control Network, and Instrumentation problems.

•       Assist in evaluation of new Oil and Gas production/automation technologies.

•       Work with IT and Central Automation Group to create and maintain automation standards 

•       Participate as team member on automation projects to provide “Lessons Learned” 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

·         Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related degree

·         1-5 years working experience on Automation related projects

·         Knowledge of oil and gas production processes

·         Knowledge of RTUs and PLCs. Understanding of digital and analog I/O, PLC programming, and troubleshooting.

·         Basic knowledge of automation and electrical design principles and industry standards.

·         Understanding of Pre-Start Safety Review process (PSSR)s and Management of Change (MOCs).

·         Should be able to depict Leadership skills

·         Ability to perform under pressure and work multiple projects concurrently

·         Strong written, oral and project management skills

·         Should be able to depict analytical and problem-solving skills

·         Ability to interact with customers and clients in a positive and professional manner

·         Team player with strong interpersonal skills

·         Ability to communicate effectively with management, technical and field personnel

·         Strong knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and Windows Operating Systems.

 

Preferred:

·         Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with GPA of 3.25 or higher (or foreign equivalent).

·         2 years of Oil Field experience.

·         1 years of upstream oil and gas automation experience.

·         Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs & Rosemount instrumentation.

·         Able to develop Cause & Effects, P&ID’s, wiring diagrams, control narratives, etc.

·         Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals.

·         Listens actively and invites new ideas for exchanged opinions, then influences and acts to drive positive performance and achieve results.
