Job Competencies

Patient Care

Collaborate with physician and team in the management of Surgical Oncology Patients in one or multiple areas of the department (GI, Melanoma, Sarcoma, Endocrine, Port Clinic, Breast Cancer). Employee demonstrates population-based competencies (age-specific, diversity) that cross the continuum of care. Employee functions within their professional scope in their assigned area. Interpret tests and prescribe appropriate treatment in collaboration with physicians. Collaborate with multidisciplinary team in the care of surgical oncology patients.

Outpatient Clinic APP - manage new patients, follow-up patients, and post-op patients in collaboration with physician and clinic team.

Operating Room - assist in surgery, perform pre-operative history and physical assessments. Evaluate immediate post-operative status. Interpret tests and prescribe appropriate treatment.

Inpatient Care - manage patients during inpatient hospitalization and post-surgery in collaboration with physician and clinical team.

Medical Knowledge

Employee demonstrates medical knowledge of care of Surgical Oncology patients. Knowledgeable and possess proficiency as well as skills in the care and management of Surgical Oncology patients.

Professionalism

Employee demonstrates commitment to collaborative professional relationships with physicians and all members of the heath care team. Employee abides by professional regulatory and institutional guidelines for practice for providing care, documentation, professional charges, professional practice, and behaviors.

Practice-Based Learning

Employee participates in on-going learning and demonstrates application of it in his/her role.

System-Based Practice

Employee demonstrates his/her impact on the system of care. Analyze own practice and assess as well as implement ways to improve practice.

EDUCATION

Required: Degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.

Preferred:

At least 1 year of experience in Advanced Practice Provider role. Prior experience in Oncology setting.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION

Required: Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.

Must meet the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) , ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working in one of following department: Pediatrics - Patient Care (113100).
