We have an exciting opportunity for an Active Thermal Control Systems (ATCS) Systems Engineer to join the team with our Engineering Division.

The Active Thermal Control Systems (ATCS) Systems Engineer will:

  • Experience with turbo machinery, hands on experience with pumps, building redesigning impellers

  • Working with Collins Aerospace

  • Perform and review system level analyses that will influence the overall design and performance

  • Review and provide input to system and sub-system level requirements and other Gateway Program documents.

  • Develop ATCS requirements verification plan

  • Investigate technology development opportunities and perform infusion planning

  • Develop analysis package presentations

  • Manage heat load vs. heat rejection matrix

  • Develop integrated module/TCS schematics

  • Maintain the TCS Concept of Operations (ConOps)

  • Provide written and oral statuses in the form of presentations or reports and represent the Thermal Systems Manager at program and engineering boards

  • Interface with International partners and Module providers for integrated solutions of ATCS

  • Review Module provider’s hardware development activities and advise Thermal System Manager on any areas of concern

  • Coordinate with vendors on ATCS problem identification and issue resolution.

  • Perform other duties as required

Here’s what you’ll need :

Requisition Qualifications:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  • Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering and normally possess 5 - 10 years of related experience. License and certification may be required.

  • Experience with the development of space systems requirements documents including functional requirements and verification success criteria

  • Experience with the design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of space thermal control systems

  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware field, such as mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, and design software and tools

  • Understand basic principles of thermal/fluid systems and their operations and controls

  • Able to distill and format large amounts of data and identify trends and patterns

  • Effective at leading teams to resolve issues

  • Effective at leading meetings, both virtual and in-person, developing and driving an agenda, resolution to issues, taking minutes and actions, and following up to closure

  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products​

Requisition Preferences:

  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of ten (10) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and eight (8) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. degrees and five (5) years direct engineering experience

  • Knowledge of Active Thermal Control Systems

  • Able to conduct first order / first principles analysis for thermal fluid and mechanical design issues, i.e. filter sizing, vacuum time, leakage/pressure decay, etc. using standard MSOffice tools or other software

  • Experience with NASA Change management process

  • MBSE simulation and analysis experience

  • Verification testing experience

  • Adept at process definition, creation, execution, and enforcement in regard to engineering and project management; i.e. risks, reviews, technology development, testing, etc.

  • Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
