Maintenance Technician - Description and Responsibilities

The Maintenance Technician is assigned to either Preventative Maintenance or Production Support functions. The role requires the highest levels of craft competencies in order to provide the necessary work activities to install, trouble-shoot, maintain, diagnose, replace, repair and maintain plant production equipment required for accomplishing concurrently active projects or Work-Orders to the level expected. Work includes a wide variety of food processing and related machinery with sub-components that use pneumatics, hydraulics, conveyance, and mechanical mechanisms. The position also requires ability to perform general electrical installation, repair and trouble-shooting of programmable logic or relay logic as well as instrument calibration.

This position reports to the Sr. Production Supervisor and/or Lead Technician. In the absence of the Maintenance Technician, another Maintenance Technician will serve as backup.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Respond to equipment breakdowns both major and minor events. Response includes getting a description of the issue, prioritizing the repair, and taking actions with appropriate resources.

Perform preventative, predictive, and diagnostic maintenance on production and facility equipment on a scheduled and/or required basis depending on the needs of the production facility.

Participate in developing and documenting maintenance plans for equipment as assigned. For example, determining work description, parts and tools required to complete plans, and how often maintenance is necessary to maintain a particular piece of equipment.

Timely execution of approved plans for project work and Functional Improvements team tasks. This includes, identifying a source of loss and responding to it in a World Class manner through utilization of World Class tools and following the 9-step process.

Carry out all required follow up on work order details to quality completion of all assignments; to include proper documentation.

Resolve machine problems with effective troubleshooting using inside and outside support (e.g. parts mfg, material, mfg, machine mfg, etc.)

Accurate and thorough documentation of all work performed using maintenance tracking system and/or technical reports (e.g. log books and work orders).

Research and procurement of new materials, parts and supplies to improve equipment and resolve ongoing issues. Items such as writing work orders, contacting vendors, and installing parts on the machine.

General support of plant production and quality as assigned by Plant Leadership.

Attend all safety meetings, report any safety incidents/accidents and understand and follow all Company and Plant Safety policies and Procedures.

Support for the SQF 2000 System.

Trained in the Kerry HACCP program in order to identify critical steps and their instructions critical to effective implementation and maintenance of the Food Safety Plan.

Have previous experience in maintenance mechanical.

Ability to read, write, and communicate in English at a level to facilitate the understanding of the terminology of the job.

Have basic math skills.

Have basic mechanical skills.

Ability to work safely.

Ability to lift 50 lbs and the ability to kneel, bend over, squat, stoop, and carry.

Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.

Regular and punctual attendance is required.

Education and/or Experience:

High School graduate or equivalent is required.

Previous maintenance and/or manufacturing experience a plus.
