GE Vingmed Ultrasound A/S, part of GE HealthCare, is a world leader in medical ultrasound imaging with main offices in Horten and satellite offices in Oslo and Trondheim, Norway. Our Vivid echocardiography product line helps diagnose over 300,000 patients daily.

We are seeking a Senior Ultrasound Systems Engineer to strengthen our R&D team. You will join a global team of highly motivated expert engineers, focusing on front-end hardware integration, acoustic and physics modeling, software beamforming, and real-time ultrasound processing. Your expertise will contribute to high-quality images for patient diagnosis and treatment. You’ll collaborate closely with clinicians, combining technical knowledge with clinical insights to enhance system performance.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Lead the design, development, and testing of imaging subsystems for cardiovascular applications, including diagnostic echo and interventional structural cardiology.

• Apply acoustic and signal processing theories, including machine learning and deep learning techniques, to improve ultrasound imaging performance and develop application-specific algorithms and imaging modes.

• Work closely with clinicians and sonographers to optimize image quality and develop advanced software tools for image enhancement.

• Engage in all phases of new product development, from initial concept through to release and ongoing service support.

• Contribute to global development projects within GE HealthCare, leveraging cross-functional expertise and collaboration.

Qualification/Requirements

• Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, Cybernetics, Electrical Engineering, Signal Processing, Medical Imaging or related discipline.

• Expertise in ultrasound technology, including physical models and signal processing.

• Proficiency in coding (e.g. Python, C++) for data analysis and algorithm development.

• Comfortable engaging with clinicians to fine-tune image quality.

• Demonstrated problem solving abilities.

Preferred Skills:

• Direct experience in R&D and ultrasound system development for cardiology applications such as diagnostic echo, transesophageal echo, and intracardiac catheters.

• Object oriented design and C++ programming. Good understanding of real time performance for computational heavy applications and data throughput.

• Concurrency programming (multicore CPU and/or GPGPU).

• Proficiency in modern software development best practices, including Test-Driven Development (TDD).
