Helping Hands Hawaii Warehouse Driver in Honolulu, Hawaii

Drives company vehicles and/or other vehicles to transport materials to and from specified destinations, by performing the essential duties. To provide timely pick-up, warehousing, and distribution of incoming goods, which may include pulling and selecting with a forklift, and/or pallet jack, and/or manually. Organizes route and ensures trip list is timely and accurate. Ensures that pick-ups are conducted in a courteous manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and organizes appointment times and routes for pick-up and delivery of donated goods with Program Coordinator and Program Manager.
  • Completes the pick-ups and deliveries of donated goods in accordance with all policies, procedures, and applicable traffic laws. Responsible for safe vehicle operations, driving, and crew safety at all times.
  • Responsible for safely operating the lift gate when loading and offloading material items.
  • Maintains interior and exterior cleanliness of company vehicle and performs daily maintenance, including ensuring proper fuel, oil and fluid levels.
  • Schedule regular car service appointments and report any issues.
  • Calls donors to notify of pick-up status and/or impending arrival using the company cellular phone and hands-free device. Completes all paperwork at each destination and returns them to Program Coordinator or Program Manager when done, to include the processing and distribution of tax receipts to donors and other receipts and invoices.
  • Obtains proper authorization for credit card usage when refueling the company vehicle and submits receipt to cardholder.
  • Loads vehicle, distributes weight evenly, forms compact load, organizes assorted donations and effectively utilizes space. Positions pads, stacks and secures items using equipment, such as ropes, tie straps, to prevent damage to goods during transit.
  • Notifies Program Coordinator or Program Manager of any client and donor feedback and/or vehicle problems including accidents and/or motor vehicle citations.
  • Works with Warehouse Workers, on identifying unusable or excess inventory in warehouse that can be distributed to other service providers whose clients can benefit for free. Prepares monthly and orderly transportation of damaged items, recyclable metals and other recyclable items to appropriate facilities.
  • Assists in warehouse operations, including but not limited to assisting client appointments, receiving, sorting, organizing and inventorying of donated goods when needed or when not scheduled to do pick-up and delivery of material items.
  • Works with Program Coordinator and Program Manager in training and overseeing warehouse volunteers to assist with warehouse activities.
  • Signs out for company vehicle keys and cellular phone at the beginning of every shift and returns keys and cellular phone to the Program Manager/Program Coordinator promptly after every shift.
  • Works with Warehouse Worker II to organizes and maintains back warehouse to ensure safe storage and easy access to items.
  • Assists in the office as needed or directed by Program Manager.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of experience driving a large delivery vehicle.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful driving situations (e.g. at rush hour)
  • Valid Driver's license and clean traffic abstract.
  • Familiar with the major roads and neighborhoods on the island of Oahu.
  • A polite and professional temperament
  • This position is Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm, some Saturdays are required.
  • Ability to lift heavy furniture and appliances
  • Ability to operate forklift and willingness to obtain certification
